With Marvel bringing lesser known and even obscure characters to the big screen and tv, they have a whole bunch of characters from their early days that are waiting to be used. What Golden Age characters would like to see, and how would you revamp them to fit modern times?

I suppose marvel could use almost all of them since it's unlikely the rights to them have been sold?

I would love to see spitfire. I would love to see more marvel period films but I guess always going back to ww2 will get boring after a while

I would like to see Namora.

Some of the characters could be available for Agent Carter.

I'd like to see Jimmy Woo on Agent Carter at some point. It's a no brainer.

this thread makes me wonder who the first superhero was in the MCU, timeline wise. (not counting Asgardians). was it Cap or did costumed heroes exist earlier. will we ever learn about that? a CBM set in the 1920s or the 1890s might be sweet

Coulson calls Cap the first superhero in Avengers but we did see Human Torch in TFA. It would be great to see more of Human Torch.

I would really like to see J.J. Feild as Union Jack. Seeing the original Human Torch in action would be epic too.

Also, I remember an episode of the Spiderman animated series that featured Whizzer, Miss America, Thunderer Black Marvel and Destroyer. It would be nice to see a few of those characters interacting with Peggy and the S.S.R. crew.

I feel like Whizzer would be hard to pull off in the historic MCU unless he's just a top-peak human runner or something like that.

I'd like to see all of the Invaders, particularly the Human Torch and Namor. If Marvel could do an Invaders movie set in WWII, they could potentially use Namor, if he can't be used in a solo film similar to the Hulk deal.

Would be cool to see Miss America, the Whizzer, the Destroyer, Spitfire and Union Jack too.

If they had introduced the Whizzer already, they could've said that this was the source for Quicksilver's powers and where he got his speed.

what are his powers, exactly, apart from public urination?

Exactly the same as Quicksilver's. I don't know what you're talking about with the public urination.

He's like Jay Garrick to Barry Allen.

And then, if Fox gives back the X-Men, they can retcon it to be Magneto? And then later retcon it again just for fun?

I suppose it could be done. They could do shows set in the golden age time frame. I would really like to see something done with Hank Pym in his younger days.

I kinda wished Agents of SHIELD used actual agents from the comics. Seeing a show with Jimmy Woo would be awesome.

They used Agent Hand and Agent Garrett. Alphonso Mackenzie (who was a SHIELD liaison, but I think later became a full agent) is a major character since the beginning of the second season.

Having shows set back then would be cool, but I think everyone gets caught up with the idea that the Golden Age characters have to be used in that WW2 setting. I think it would be cool to see some of them used alongside modern characters.

My choices would be:

latest

Jack Frost: I think he would be cool to see in a Thor movie, especially if they focus on him being a Frost Giant who was castout for being too small. He could be a reluctant hero and join Thor's crew.

latest

Mr. E (Victor Jay): Since he was a detective, I think it would be nice to use him in Jessica Jones as a myserious older mentor for her. His name is just too good to go to waste.

Aarkus.jpg

Aarkus: He'd be cool to see Guardians of the Galaxy, especially with his connection to the Cosmic Cube. He's a little OP power-wise, but it would be visually amazing.

latest

Claire Voyant: If they ever introduce Mephisto, I think she would perfect to be his assistant. She could be an amazing female anti-hero character.

Yeah but I meant as main characters since the beginning. Obviously things have changed with Mack, Bobbi and Daisy, but I think the show would've benefitted had they used comic agents from the beginning. I would've loved to see a SHIELD show with Jimmy Woo and Clay Quatermain.

Human Torch
He's not related to the :ff:, I'm sure they can find a way to use him.

The thing is, how would they be utilized if the Avengers were supposed to be the first mainstream heroes out in the open? Like I can see characters like Blonde Phantom or Patriot working back then alongside Peggy, but someone like Angel or the Blazing Skull work because they would warrant the public of the '20s to make a huge commotion.

I guess we'll see-- or not-- how deep the golden age hero well goes. There are various folks to choose from, though my guess is that virtually all of them-- the heroes, anyway-- will be the non powered folks. I predict that maybe some of The Twelve may be seen eventually. It would be nice.

I loved The Twelve, but Marvel's, er, Timely's Golden Age was kinda weak. Though I'm convinced inspirations of the past helped most the Silver Age. It's obvious with the Human Torch. But there was also a magical Vision and Black Widow. The latter of which, I think, inspired Stan Lee. I don't care what he says.

Other than Captain American, Namor the Submariner is the only worthwhile one to bring into the fold. Damn Fantastic Four rights. I hope they get Namor. Like Black Panther, he's lesser known, but a major chess piece in the MU. And could be for the MCU. Sigh. Also, Silver Surfer and Galactus and his heralds in Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3 - Annihilation would be a dream come true.
