What is a good free and easy to use (I'm a newcomer to editing) video editing program? I've been using Windows Movie Maker but it sucks.

Free??? No idea, but good ones are Sony Vegas and Adobe Premiere pro, ive been using them for years :D

Windows Movie Maker does indeed suck. But you could give Windows Movie Maker 2 a try. Supposedly a vast improvement and it's free. Other free video editing programs you could try are Videomach, Avidemux or Virtualdub. Keep in mind that none of these programs will be as fully featured as programs like Adobe Premiere, Avid or Final Cut.

Basically all I wanna do is edit my Youtube videos better...

Buy a Mac. I know the computers aren't free but it comes with a very good movie editor (it's at least enough to edit small videos, it's not very good for special effects and other fancy stuff.)

Other than that, I honestly don't know any free programs

Give Windows Movie Maker 2 a try. If that doesn't work out, give Avidemux a shot. If you're still finding that the free video editors aren't giving you the functionality you need you might want to look into springing for the moderately priced consumer based commercial video editors, like Adobe Premiere Elements and Sony Vegas.

if you have windows XP, there is a free version of Avid that works pretty well. Avid made a frree version, but discontinued it. So there are copies out there, but they don't work with vista. if you want a link to a copy, just pm me.

otherwise check out Pinnacle Videospin. it is free and REALLY easy to use. it works much better than windows movie maker. it is easier, has more features, and works well for simple projects. If you are looking to do something bigger down the road, someone mentioned adobe audition, which is what i use. It is probably the most affordable professional video editor. The best has always been final cut, which you need a mac for. Avid is also good, but i hear that the latest version needs a really powerful PC to run it. if that is true, i don't know. But avid and final cut are both pretty exspensive.

Free??? Don't know of any. But if you've got a MAC, can't go wrong with FCP.

Thanks for the input I'm going to be giving all your suggestions (well except the buy a Mac) a thought or two.
