Just started checking out the bat books since Dini and Morrison are writing. Last one I read regularly was Gotham Central and Aiken was commissioner. What happened?

Yeah, he was back as soon as One Year Later started. Not sure why exactly since I only read the first couple issues of OYL Batman and Detective Comics.

It was never really explained in any great detail. It was just one of those OYL changes. Maybe they're saving the details for 52, I dunno.

They are. They hinted that Bullock brought down a lot of corruption, going all the way to Akins, in the Face the Face arc. It will be talked about more about halfway through 52, I think?

Yeah that's another thing I meant to mention...Bullock's return as well.

Im glad Bullock's back. He had a good heart to heart with bats in one of the face to face issues. Bullock definately seems like an asset to batman. Tough, level-headed, why should all the villains get the thugs

I'm not too big on Gordon being back. Seems like a step backwards to me. I prefer him as the retired consultant who still serves as enough of a symbol as the good cop to garner enemies. At least nowadays.

I think it was painfully obvious both Gordon and Bullock were little more than returns to the status quo. Still, while it may not progress the character(s) much, it isn't always a bad thing. Not to mention, you pretty much knew Atkins didn't have much of a future after everything he pulled in War Games.

True. I just would have liked to see a new Comissioner.

Gordon coming back is a return to status quo like Batman coming back is a return to status quo. Sure they could've stuck with Akins, just like they could've retired Bruce Wayne and kept the Az-Bat.

I mean honestly, Jim Gordon's been in comics longer than Batman, who's kidding who he wasn't gonna be brought back?

 Elaborate please...

I believe Gordon showed up one or two pages before we saw Bruce Wayne put on his Batman suit back in Detective Comics #27. ;)
