I have a relative who went through an ordeal a few years back. She (her name is June, and she was 13) went along with a friend of hers (Lacy, about 18. Keep in mind these aren't their real names) were horseback riding.
Lacy took June to a nearby driving range (which was near the barn they rode at) which had golfers on it during that time. They were riding on the land, in the view of the golfers. They weren't on the grass, but on an unmanaged part of it just riding around enjoying themselves.
Lacy had said she had ridden on this land several times without trouble, so June just followed along. Turns out, they weren't allowed on the land, and Lacy knew that, but she was ignoring that one fact.
A truck came driving down the side of the course, coming to them pretty quickly. June guessed it was coming to tell them to get off the land. Well, she was half right, except, words weren't involved.
Purposely, it chased them both into the woods on the horse trail, purposely going faster. They're running their horses fast as they could. Mind you, these girls didn't have helmets on, and the trail was curvy and the ground was wet because it had recently rained.
The person driving the truck was trying to run them over. If one of the horses' had fallen, my little June would most certainly be dead or mortally wounded. Not to mention the horse would be hurt too.
Thankfully, that didn't happen, and they're both ok. Though I know that Lacy was nearly arrested, June was torn to tears and is now afraid of trucks, and turns out, the man who had chased them was 15, without a permit to drive, and the son of the owner of the driving range.
June's mother contacted the police, and they said this was assault and a possible attempted murder, that they should also pursue charges, but alas, none were pressed, and I still dont know why.
The damn boy got away because June's mom didn't do *****.
I know this was years ago, but Im about ready to go speak to her mother about this. If this boy did this once, he just might do it again.
