Grand Theft Auto IV Recommended Specs

SOOOOOOOOOOO excited for this to come out. I played it on my buddy's 360 on the midnight that it came out and never played it again but it was amazingly cool. The idea of mods for it makes me drool. They scrapped a really cool batman mod for San Andreas so here's hopin for it for GTA IV.

Operating System: Windows XP SP2
Processor: Dual core processor (Intel Pentium D or better)
RAM: 2GB
Hard Drive: 18GB free hard disk space

The 18gb of HDD space is ridiculous. I wasnt expecting that much for it. Otherr than that, the specs look pretty reasonable. My PC could easily run it. Already have the PS3 version though so I dont need this

Yeah I got a 250 gig HDD, I can't wait till this is available.

I'm 1GB short of RAM

It will play on Vista
Does it take advantage of DX10 on Vista? Doesn't matter to me either way since I have XP, just curious.

My PC exceeds all those specs. I hope it'll play well at the highest settings, but I suspect I'll have to drop a few snazzy effects to get it to run smoothly.

If I can play FALLOUT 3 at a fairly decent level, I should be able to play GTA IV.. whenever it comes out

If you've got a good video card and processor, it'll probably make up for the lack of normal RAM a bit. I've played plenty of games on below-spec PCs.

I play FALLOUT 3 with everything set at low :down and I bought my computer this year

I built one of my pc's about two years ago with the addition of the ram changed to duel channel this year with a new board, runs everything maxed out completely. It's mid end.

I tried out FALLOUT 3 with everything set at mid yesterday--and damn this game looks good. Of course, it was painfully slow so I had to play around with the settings a bit--oh well.. till I double my RAM and vid card

The only thing that worries me about getting GTA4 for PC is that I'm still running XP, which means I won't get any of those nifty DirectX 10 perks. I just played Tomb Raider: Legend on my computer yesterday and found that the water effects really aren't as good as the 360's water effects, even though I had all the settings maxed out, because I haven't got DX10. It's relatively minor, but it'd be nice if I could get that extra bit of eye candy.

DX10 only affects DX10 games and Legends came out before DX10, so you wouldnt have gotten any graphical boost from it.

Maybe I'm just remembering Legends looking a lot better than it really did, then. Did Anniversary have a graphical upgrade or did it have completely the same graphics as Legend? I know Anniversary, at least, looked better than Legend because I just played that a couple months ago.

Anniversary is built on the PS2 build of the game and did not get a graphical upgrade. You'll truly see the difference if you've played the new Underworld. Boy does that look way better than both of these.

I noticed a difference in water effects when I swapped my X1950 around with my 8800GT, on the 8800GT when she comes out of the water there seems to be no wet effect on her skin. The diffrences with DX10 are very minor imo. Didn't notice any difference with Crysis at all when switching DX9/DX10. Legend with AA/AF +16 at higher resolutions and supersampling should look noticeably crisper than the console counterparts though, there doesn't seem to be an option to turn AA/AF/supersampling other than turn on AA (presumably X2/X4) in the game so I had to do from the from the NVIDEA control panal and set it to overright.

I have an 8800GT as well, and the lack of wetness on Lara after she comes out of water is part of what I was talking about. Also, the water itself looks like the textures are stretching more than it looks like it's flowing to the cliff in that first area in Bolivia. I guess it's just some odd peculiarity with the 8800s or Nvidia's drivers or something...

I never thought of using the Nvidia panel to override the very limited visual settings in Legend. I'll try that tonight and see how it looks. Thanks for the tip.

Awesome... except I already own Vice City from way back when it was originally released on PC. ;)
