His storyline never really amounted to anything and the investigation of his murder was convinientely forgotten..

Now with Lionel Luthor about to die, its extremely unlikely that Grant will be mentioned ever again...

It didnt seem like Grant's departure and death phased Lois either..

So what was the point of the character?

He seemed to be the most pointless recurring character since Adam Knight.

His purpose was to show how sick and twisted Lex has gotten to the point that he needed to clone his dead brother in order to have someone who loves him. When Grant didn't share his gratitude and when Lionel accepted him with open arms, it upset Lex so much that he had Grant killed. So basically, Grant was there to show the audience that Lex is one twisted SOB.

but to kill your own brother? Lex wasn't like that in season 3. He was still trying to be Clark's friend and doing the right thing (sort of).

We saw Lex kill before though and killing a clone of his brother doesn't mean much..

Given its a clone that Lex created and a clone is something he can just as easily create again.

But he was so sadistic about it. Lex had killed before the last couple of seasons, but he's getting better at it and is doing it far more deliberately.

Gabriel had ceased to give Lex what he needed and threatened to take what little love Lionel still had for him away so he killed him for it.

He killed Julian in the way that hurt his father most, right in front of him.... He was punishing Lionel too for thinking that Grant could be the son he never had in Lex.

It was cold, calculating and spiteful murder. In a way, I'm sorry that Lex had gotten so emtional afterwards about it... He should have keep on playing pool and drinking his scotch.

However, his murder of Patricia Swann was more like that, so he is getting better at killing.

It still seems very unresolved to me; the fact Lionel dropped the issue.

Maybe it will be mentioned in Descent during the Luthor confrontation.

You know, I wonder how much things like that were affected by the strike. Maybe they had planned on havng consequences for Lex for that, but just had to cut it since the season is shorter than it was supposed to be.

We may never know what changed because of the strike... Maybe Craig's 7th season companion will cover that in part.

The way I see it, each guest character is brought on for a specific reason to push forward certain storylines. Grant was brought on to show the audience that Lex would kill his own flesh and blood (even if he is a clone). Adam Knight came on to show the audience that Lionel is still very much after Clark and that he would use Clark's friends to get to him. Jason Teague came on for the stones storyline. Each guest character has a purpose in the overall story. It just may take a while to see what that purpose is.

Yep, he was a useless character/storyline, much like Kara's amnesia

Big point...

Grant was a way to show just how desperate Lex was... not just for someone who would love and respect him, but also for additional resolution to a VERY traumatic event in his life (Julians death caused his first psychotic break).

Grant also served to show Lex loosing his last battle to find redemption. When Lex actually became guilty of the very crime - killing his brother - that had haunted him as a boy... that had caused his father to turn his love away from him... I think killing Julian killed the last good piece of his soul.

Grant was in no way "pointless," but the aftermath of his dramatic demise was very POORLY handled. They shouldn't have just dropped all reference to the character like he had never existed. THAT was bad.
