If the negotiations goes through with Portman I could see Gravity prepping for a shooting in the summer of 2011, if not that maybe WB could probably push the shooting forward to autumn, is possible considering that this movie doesn't have a release date. RDJ should be done for SH2 around in march and maybe half way done with The Avengers by then.

The movie should've started filming now. Although a specific date wasnt planned , i think ( need to confirm this) WB was looking towards a (summer) 2012 release date in IMAX.
Framestore will do all the VFX of the movie and it's going to take them quite some them. In general when one studio gets to do all the VFX of a big project , they'll need alot of time.
For example ILM worked longer then a year on each of the SW prequels.
WETA worked a year to create all the VFX shots of Avatar.
Even Digital Domain is taking 18 months to create all the shots of Tron.

Gravity will be no different. If they decide to film GRavity next year , it'll mean that WB will either have to pay extra cash to get the movoe finished in time or they'll have to push back the release date to 2013

Sucks that it didn't work out, I just hope WB don't go with Bullock.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Don't care she won Oscar, she is not right for serious roles.

Portman was actually very wrong for this role the character is a mother trying to get back to her child

Portman was too young for the role

i will give Sandra a shot

I won't complain since she's the closest to the role now and by then, get the project off ground. But I'd rather see some other actress in the role, like Cotillard for an example.

Just because Bullock might be wrong for this role doesn't mean that Portman was right for it. Portman was the weakest link in the Brothers remake cast, she was completely bland and unbelievable in her role. It seemed like she was trying too hard to act like an adult woman with children.

Most of those actresses mentioned are a little young to be a mother and part of the space program where they have enough experience to go to space IMO.

yeah the only ones on the list i would buy as mothers other than Jolie who passed and Sandra Bullock were

Marion Cotillard & Charlize Theron

Sandra Bullock's one of the most overrated actresses in Hollywood. If she's in it, it won't be the deciding factor whether the movie's ultimately good or bad, but I'd still be pretty disappointed.

Yeah, she's not my first choice but I just wanna see a Cuoran film so it doesn't matter.

Don't do it Alfonso!!!!!! Don't let her little popularity contest trophy fool you!!!!!

Yeah I cant stand Bullock. Anybody but her please! I have lost track of the actresses who has turned down the role, but how bout Rachel Weisz or Winona Ryder.

Color me uninterested in the flick if Bullock ends up getting the role.

Whether anyone complaining about Bullock likes it or not WB were clearly reluctant to proceed with the project without a box office draw in the lead role after Jolie passed TWICE.

Yes it's frustrating that, once again on the heels of the WW news, it looks like the studio aren't really interested in giving actresses a shot at being stars in movies that aren't rom coms but, like INCEPTION(Dicaprio hadn't done sci-fi before and was anyone saying that audiences wouldn't go in the manner they're doing with Bullock?), they have a sci-fi tentpole that isn't automatically sellable so going with an audience draw in the lead role takes care of their worries at that end.

Fools gold if they believe people care about Bullock in anything other than rom-coms. Studio picks, gotta love 'em. Besides, isn't RDJ in this film? Can't honestly tell me RDJ isn't a big enough draw, not after the last few years he's had.

Wait, Nat was doing Pride and Prejudice and Zombies? :wow:

i hope this movie gets made and bombs because of Bullock. studios need to learn that a good movie with good promotion is enough.

hehe ;)

First off RDJ is playing a supporting, minor role in the picture whereas the lead actress will be onscreen alone for a majority of the running time(akin to CAST AWAY) henceforth as far as they (WB) and well common sense are concerned it'll be on the ability of the lead actress to pull in the big crowd who otherwise won't bother going to a sci-fi space set movie which isn't action adventure oriented in the slightest no matter how pretty the effects are.

THE BLIND SIDE may be the only movie so far that proves that Bullock can have a hit outside her admittedly mediocre rom-coms but as it was a success for the same studio she's a better bet than pretty much every actress that's been listed since Jolie passed it on.
