I was reading thru this book and was kinda' taken aback at how callous Ollie was in taking out whole corporations that had defense contracts. Baldie made a good point. Innocent factory workers will no longer have jobs. Some families will break up. People will get sick and have no benefits. Some kids will not be able to go to college.

Even as obssessed as Batman is, he'd never stoop to that level to get his agenda going.

All because of what Ollie did.

Like it or not defense is what keeps us safe. Ollie is a hypocrite to live in a country that has a military protecting his rich butt.

Thoughts??? :cmad:

I thought it was more so corporations that were selling weapons to other bad guy countries.

No it wasn't. Baldy made it clear what these compnies were. They had factories that obviously made munitions.

Never anything said about those companies being crooked.

I'd like to see Natas drop a dime on Ollie and have someone effected by this...someone whose dad committed suicide when they lost their home and cars after he lost his job, to find out it was Ollie that did this. Man , what a great storyline that would be.

He's not a hypocrite for wanting his country to change. Wether you agree with him or not, he feels that the U.S. abuses it's military forces. However, I do agree, Ollie doesn't always think out the possible reprecussions of his actions.

Yeah, it really would. Sort of proves the old saying: "The road to hell is paved with good intentions."

I think it fit pretty well with Ollie's flawed character. Y'know, he's a hardcore liberal. Whenever someone is so hard-set to one belief, you can become ignorant to other positions and viewpoints. And GA has certainly been shown to be prone to that in the past.

Although, I do agree, something bad happening because of what Ollie did would make for an excellent story.

Looking at the thread title, I expected to read about Ollie seducing a couple of MILFs or something.

Defense contracts?, bah. :down

Well, that kind of goes without saying. :o

You think Wininck reads these boards for ideas??

Probably not. Otherwise, he'd stop writing every single one of his books about gay people and AIDs. I mean, Christ, I'm half expecting gay people and AIDs to come up in "The Life and Times of Juniper Lee." :o

actually, uh, i do believe Waynetech does not do business with companies that manufacture weapons either.

either way, this i like saying "corporations are *******s because they refuse to outsource their work to sweatshops...now those third world citizens wont even be getting their 5 cents and hour."

That's what I was thinking when he turned Grace and Thunder lesbo :csad:

As progressive and risk-taking as the GA/GL books were back in the seventies and even though I'd never read them, my understanding is that -- reading from today's perspective -- Ollie does come across very brash and radical and fanatical and even flat-out wrong at certain points.

yeah, Ollie was pretty much an anarchist in the GL/GA books, although most of the time he was right in them...the only time he was probably flat out wrong was when he found out Speedy was a junkie

As I'm told regular by other comic readers ending with "CALM DOWN VARIENT"
"Green Arrow is a flawed hero."

"Flawed means a lil bit less than perfect"

""A lil bit less than perfect means in his case that he leads with his feelings"

(Which explains his past tendacies to trip and fall into women.)
