Green Knight

Going to see this today without prior knowledge of the poem and such. I can already see people on facebook saying it was terrible, so that must mean it's good haha.

I don't think people are going to say it's terrible. I think people are going to say it's too pretentious.

Yeah, like a lot of other A24 films, this movie is not going to be for everyone.

I would say Slow West, A Ghost Story, and maybe The Witch but with a much slower pace.

As an addendum, I would be 100% okay if Lowery wanted to a “Death of Arthur” movie with Sean Harris leading. I loved his portrayal of Arthur.

I am disappointed.

In myself. I went to see it after a too long a day of work with less than ideal sleep and after too large of a meal and kept dozing on and off for about 40 minutes of the movie. From when Gawain started his journey to just before the giants. But what I did see unimpeded by near unconsciousness was beautiful. The scenery was gorgeous. The last 2 chapters were so well done.

I plan to see this again. I just need to make sure to do so when I've actually had the right amount of sleep. I need to see what I missed.

…this is a masterpiece.
Yes, yes it is. My daughter and I both loved it. I really can’t find anything to complain about. Maybe could have moved a little quicker at the start, but once he leaves on the quest it’s just perfect. Gorgeous filmmaking, great spots of humor, top notch performances and the changes they make from the story work 100 percent. I can understand how it completely won’t work for some people but it’s a 10/10 for me.

So has there been anyone who has found this film pretentious yet?

There were lots of murmurs and comments about the film when the crowd dispersed last night but nothing overly negative from what I overheard. Didn't notice anyone walk out but then again I was only really conscious during the last half and was pretty engrossed in the flick.

Now that a few more people have seen it…..THAT shot? In a fairly mainstream film?! :funny:

…it’s a lucky belt.

That whole chapter/part of the film was so weird. Have you seen the theories revolving that?

No, I haven’t. I’d be curious to here some.

I love the version we got, but I am curious to see the pre-pandemic cut just for curiosity’s sake because it sounds like a completely different movie. Apparently there were multiple action scenes in that version and the new cut doesn’t have a single sword fight. Seems like he made a commercial version and the pandemic allowed him to recut it into the arthouse version he really wanted to make.

I’m a big A24 film, and with no prior knowledge of the poem, I found the film frustrating at times. The “chapter” titles didn’t help with the structure of the story and until I watched a YouTube video that described each encounter being a metaphorical test that encompassed attributes of the Arthurian legend, did I fully “get” what I watched. Overall, it was visually pleasing and well acted, but I did not care for it.

Hoping to catch this Tuesday after work. Looking forward to it

Won't be able to watch this until next week due to work. So jealous of you guys.

That scene played out exactly like this
