Documentary/Biopic Zac Efron stars in Wrestling Drama “The Iron Claw” | A24

BTW Tubi has the Dark Side of the Ring episode on the Von Erichs for free. It's a must see and it talks about the other brothers who weren't in the movie.

The Last of the Von Erichs

For those familiar with the subject matter, did Kevin really go all out on Ric Flair in the ring like that?

I believe the whole scene was a combination of moments in that feud from different matches and promos.

The Flair promo:

The DQ moment that they used in the movie:

The NWA title bout where Kevin actually won and then didn't in Dallas and they used that arena look for the match in the movie.

Yeah, he wasn't a 1:1 playing Ric Flair but I still think it worked in the context of that scene that did a good job raising stakes. And also I don't know who you could get to play Ric Flair other than Ric Flair... or Jay Lethal. :o

The one misstep of Iron Claw was the casting of Flair. That guy was horrendous.
What made it stand out even more was the timing of when he showed up because the movie was pretty deep in despair by that point that even a perfect imitation of Flair still would have felt like a birthday clown showing up at a funeral.

Dustin Hoffman is the only one that comes to my mind.

Maybe if Dustin Hoffman lived on a steady diet of roids, coke, and amphetamines for a few months.

I once heard it remarked that the Nature Boy once went to the doctor and upon testing they found blood in his cocaine system.

Well he ain’t the dirtiest player in the game for nothing.

That is not far off from what most male actors do for their superhero roles, tbh.

Granted, I hate to play the “you should be casting this role for looks alone” game and I appreciate that this movie has likely opened many doors for him getting better, more dramatic material, but… it’s insane to look at Efron in this and think that they’ve cast anyone else as He-Man right now.
