Green Lantern 2

It's been a while since i saw the film, but i remember thinking at the time, how they could have done more and made it feel like a larger universe, it was too convenient how they all knew each other, within close proximity.

I'd stick with it for a sequel.

The events on GL could be hush hushed by media, government, the large clouds could be described as pure luck that it resembled a face - the media can delete all footage, i mean, look at 9/11, many believe it was an inside job, there is 'evidence' to suggest this, yet people still go on with their lives etc, consumed by pop culture.

So start off with a buzz on the conspiracy forums about a flying man in green - but the media is quiet on it, the government are monitoring it, the events of MOS i feel happen a while after GL, Hal is in space, whilst it happens, ok, convenient, but surely being earth's guardian he would have to act on the events of MOS - i would almost like to see a reboot, in that he feels he is new, needs to learn, i mean, who wouldn't wanna explore the universe. So we can start off with Hal coming to terms with his powers, he is embracing it, travelling around the world, working. Then an alien threat appears, that he has to intercept, using the corps.

I feel GL could be the star trek of the DC world, if that makes sense.

I couldn't agree more. I feel like Warner Brothers could open up a HUGE domain for GL. I love the stories so much. I'd love to see something like Blackest Night stuff. Incorporate everything you can. Warner Brothers just keeps dropping the ball.

The biggest problem with GL was there was no substance to it at all. It was a very very hollow film. So much they could have done with it but they rushed it into production. Here's to hoping one day they'll actually do something awesome with it.

So many missed oppurtunities with GL. There were only two things that kept me watching this film, and one of them was not Ryan Reynolds.

1. Pretty much anything going on in outer space, the CGI was great, seeing different Green Lanterns, visually it was amazing to look at.

2. Mark Strong as Sinestro. He was absolutely great, and stole every scene in the movie in my book. If they do a GL reboot, or a sequel, I really do hope that Mark Strong returns as Sinestro.

I just watched the premiere for the animated series.

wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy better than the movie.

There were too many cooks in the kitchen for the GL movie. Even with Johns attached to the project, it played away from the strongest elements of his run with the comics.

I've watched the movie 6 or 7 times now and I'm still trying to pick out all of the different Lanterns on Oa. I cannot understand, in any way, why they bothered to design so many eye-popping characters to use as nameless props.

Probably they had to much time?

I dunno- they may have wanted to get even the details right but ended up with a pretty scrappy screenplay to begin with along with a rather inexperienced director!

Who else thinks a soft reboot like GI JOE could be the way forward?

The Last Son of Krypton animated film is the best Superman origin there's been done on film IMO.

They knew the rest of the movie was terrible, so they tried to make up for it with random computer-generated aliens.

My idea was also basically a soft reboot like what GI Joe did. A sequel explaining Hal Jordan is gone, Guardians summon John Stewart, train him, he battles Sinestro. If the movie is expected to do well and Reynolds can mature his acting enough, have a stinger with Hal Jordan as Paralax.

Bottom line, move on, give us John Stewart.

Or do even more like GI Joe, and have Hal in the first 20 minutes of the movie. Basically Obi-Wan Hal Jordan, so to speak.

Get a really awesome John Stewart and you've got gold. Don't be crazy and get Idris Elba and give him a good story to work with. And don't then bring Mark Strong back and have a story with Katma Tui and Mogo and... shoot. Gold I say.

Sh#t man... I was about to type exactly the same thing you did, Cosmic. In the "non-sacastic", though.

A storyline set in space with Idris Elba/ JS and Katma Tui (I haven't decided on that cast yet) fighting Mark Strong/ Sinestro would be awesome!

And after watching Cloud Atlas, I want the Wachowskis to direct!

It would, and as much as Hal needs Earth, John Stewart works much better in space. Cloud Atlas was *really* weird for me on a few levels, but the Wachowskis definitely have the resume to make Green Lantern epic. I'd like to see their take on the GL Corps.

I think Sinestro building his Corps could be kind of awesome. Especially if his recruit from 2814 was Guy Gardener (tatoos, Warrior style), and throw in Arkillo, Lyssa Drak, Ranx and Fatality as recruits along the way. Their master plan to distribute rings to everyone in the galaxy capable of instilling great fear... throw in Hal becoming a new Parallax and you've got some craziness. Crecendo with a big Green Lantern vs Yellow Lantern war, then end the film with John Stewart recruiting his new partner: Kyle Rayner and you've got something crazy. Throw in Mongul as a member if they're doing the shared universe...

The more I think about it, Green Lantern 2 could be incredible.

I don't think GI Joe Retaliation is exactly the best model to use for a sequel.

I mean,to have Hal killed off 15 minutes into the film and then turn things over to Stewart to face the Sinestro Corps---That's like having Batman Begins followed by a Dark Knight where Bruce dies 15 minutes into the film and John Blake has to defeat the Joker.:oldrazz:

Not really... Batman is Bruce Wayne, doesn't matter what Nolan would make you believe!

Green Lantern is a title anyone can take! Hal doesn't actually matter to the GA!

That said, more than two Earth Green Lanterns would be overkill!

I want Hal MiA before the start of the film...

10 years after the events of GL, the Government has been successful in covering up the Alien attack in Coast City.
Ferris Aircrafts is being taken over by Queen Industries- Carol Ferris 'dies' in an aircraft accident.

Meanwhile, a new threat is emerging in the far reaches of the galaxy- the yellow power of fear spreads throughout the universe- Sinestro and Hal Jordan have been missing for five Earth years.

The Guardians have started a new selection process for a new candidate- John Stewart. Kilowog, Tomar-Re, Salaak and Arisia Rrab make up the primary task-force to find out the nature of the threat while Katma Tui is sent, to her displeasure to enroll and train John Stewart.

As the Lanterns and the Guardians find out about the Sinestro Corps and that Hal may well be a prisoner, the Green Lanterns set off to defeat the biggest threat the Universe and the Green Lanterns have ever faced!

True that, adding in Gardner and Rayner may have been overkill. But I like this overall, and I think Hal as the new Parallax would be cooler than Hal as a powerless prisoner. I forgot about Katma training John... that would be an incredible on-screen relationship. I think covering up that attack is ridiculous, it's best, in GI JOE style, if it just doesn't get mentioned, since the movie will be out in space anyway. Similarly, Carol Ferris' 'death' seems like too big a lead to go unexplored, whether the audience has seen the film or not (the assumption if we're doing a soft reboot), it begs questions that the movie isn't about. Also, Star Sapphire doesn't really work the same if the movie isn't about Hal anyway, so that might be a lost storyline.

And while Hal MIA is cool, there's something very powerful about that passing of the torch that Channing Tatum and Rock did that would assuage Hal fans and those who actually liked the first film, as well as give newbies an emotional space to put the first film in.

I totally get what you are saying but I want a set-up for GL3 where JS and Hal (space buddy cop adventure much?) go up against Star Sapphire. She kills Katma Tui if you remember...

Or Morrison..

did you not watch the end of Begins?

Was made clear that Bruce Wayne is the mask and Batman is his real identity

Buddy cop movies can be fun... but not so much when their girlfriends kills each other, then it gets pretty tense, as you might understand. Regardless, yes please:

Meh. I think a straight up sequel would be fine, just lower the budget, do practical effects instead of all cgi, and get better script writers this go round.

It'd be fine for people who liked GL1. That's it.

I guess there's never been a sequel that has ever been reworked upon from the first, being much better.
