Green Lantern Script Review

I think a cool set up would be a Hal who gets the ring and has no idea what's happening to him. Soon, the Guardians come to him and tell him his mission but they're very distant and don't communicate with him well so he's protecting earth but is still all wtf about it. Then, to make matters worse Sinestro comes to mentor him and from there its kinda like Training day with Power rings.

HAHA! I like that comparison! :woot:

"I'm the Korugian up in this beast! KING KONG AIN'T GOT S**T ON ME!"

Well, it seems like it will be very action packed - that's good...And pretty much all one can get from that piece.

I don't think that was intended to be a review, though.

I think after Hal Jordan faces Hector Hammond and Legion, the Guardians realise that he have the potential of being the greatest of all Green Lantern, and call Thaal Sinestro, the Green Lantern of the most order sector in universo, to train him. Meanwhile, whe discover Sinestro was behind Legion all along, setting up that he have his own agenda and carries a vendetta against the Guardians.

I don't like the idea of Hal being trained to be "the greatest GL ever." greatness should come from being the only one who'll do something when nobody else will. I'd stay away from the messiah bit...just make him a hero.

Also if Sinestro is this legend he wouldn't be evil. Think motivations. Sinestro should be a low level guy who's sick of the way the corps is running things and sees an opportunity to train his new apprentice in his own ways instead of the Corps. Hal gets a bit of good and a bit of bad and he gets to choose.

I have to disagree on the Sinestro part. A big part of what makes Sinestro so fascinating is this fall from grace. The fact that the greatest Green Lantern of all could fall. If he's just a low-level Lantern lost in the shuffle, then you lose some of that impact.

Like Ronny says, Hal shouldn't be pre-ordained to be the greatest GL ever. I think we've seen enough stories about "The One", in various forms. He should just be a guy who establishes himself as one of the primary assets to the Corps over time, through hard work, rather than have him fulfilling some kind of prophecy or anything.

Also, I don't think Sinestro should be behind Legion. He should be a firm believer in the nobility of the Green Lantern Corps. Being a Green Lantern is his life, his one source of happiness. He shouldn't hate The Guardians and already be plotting against them. His sins come from a desire to maintain his reputation as the greatest of the GLs.

The way I'd personally do Sinestro's turn to evil, would be with a "Gone Baby Gone" style moral conundrum. Throughout the movie, you built up Sinestro as first Hal's mentor, then his friend. You make him into a nuanced, almost likeable character. And all along, we here about how orderly his sector is, etc etc.

Then, either at the end of the first film or in the sequel (depending on when they pull the trigger), we have Hal discover that Sinestro rules over his sector with an iron fist, opposing a fearsome, fascist rule over all. When he discovers this, Sinestro pleads with him, tries to reason with him. He cares for these people, he's acting in their best interest, it seems like a hard regime, but it's all they know, and was necessary to stop them from killing each other. If Sinestro gives up his dictator-like rule, this sector will descend into violent anarchy and civil war, just like the way things were before Sinestro took over. He begs Hal, as a friend, not to betray him, because the Corps is everything to him. And so Hal must choose between what's right (in a strictly legal sense, adhering to the code set out by the Guardians) and what is right (in terms of standing by his friend, helping him act in what he knows is the greater good).

And ultimately, Hal turns Sinestro over to The Guardians. Sinestro is removed from the Corps, and exiled to Quard. He loses everything, and so swears revenge on Hal.

If they revealed all the movie details on a script review, there would't be much to see on the big screen. I loved the reviews so far. They provided good details about the movie without spoiling it too much.

Exactly....

I like it.

I also think that following that (again...depending on when they pull the trigger) Hal should face a similar dillemma with his own sector....since evil seems to be escaping his sight he should be wondering in his heart whether or not Sinestro had it right.

I like that part too, I like the twist in it. I think if that were to happen he would come to his senses after a nice talk with Alan Scott, and know what he did to Sinestro was the right move.

I don't think he should ever know he made the right move. Makes for a boring.

CLARK KENT
ALMOST GETS THE RING???
HOLY ****!!! THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN OVERKILL!!!
HE'S ALREADY INVINCIBLE, THE RING WOULD HAVE MADE HIM GOD!!!!

I'm really liking the positive response this film is getting and all those nice cameos. Also, does the
Clark Kent
cameo mean that the first appearance of the
NEW movie Superman (please be Brandon Routh)
will be in this film?

I'm glad they're using some of Emerald Dawn as the basis for the origin.

I loved that series when it came out.

YEa i asked this the other day, if any one still has the berlanti script i would love to see it in a pm to read this draft for myself.

Gotham City is in the movie now?
Oh ****!!

I mean it's cool and all but the question is that will it be
NOLAN's Gotham or a more generic Gotham City.

At best they should have a...

".. In other news, Bruce Wayne, the supposedly dead heir to Wayne Enterprises has returned to Gotham under mysterious circumstances.... "

Good script otherwise besides the sappy ending
The villain arrangement is a bit Dark Knight-ish
What I mean is the you have the major threat (Joker/Legion) defeated 3/4 of the way into the movie and the rest is used to resolve the threat created by the minor threat created by the major (Hammond/Two-Face)

Calm thyself, Anorexic.

It says a 'reference' to Gotham City.

Simply a reference.

Six things that would make "Green Lantern" the perfect script:

1. Invert the final battles. First Hammond, then Legion.
2. Remove the white temples. The Parallax reference can be made in a different way.
3. Slow down Hector Hammond's downfall to villany to explain his motives.
4. Give Killowog and Tomar-Re more time to shine.
5. Expand the movie lenght to give some depht to the explanations.
6. Give Carol Ferris some sleet.

That way, "Green Lantern" will easylly surpass "Iron Man" and other movies.

I'm not surprised that a story based off of Emerald Dawn is a bit disappointing, but it sounds decent. Personally, from what I can tell of what happens, some of the complaints are nitpicks. I mean, the gray temples and "willpower mind-sweep" aren't going to induce orgasms, but they're fairly solid ideas. So are some of the other changes, such as the Guardians being responsible for their own troubles. The things that can be snipped, though, include the name drops like Clark Kent and Gotham City, and especially Hector Hammond. I mean, how important is this character to the Green Lantern mythology? His origin is naturally hammy, and from what I'm hearing he doesn't need to be here. Then there's the parts they could improve upon, like the romance. Lots of eye-rolling was done when I read that ending. It reminds me way too much of the Super-kiss of Forgetfulness.

Otherwise, it sounds like what a first draft generally sounds like: writers putting ideas on a page in hopes of impressing the studio. It's not too much to hope for some sprucing, but this is probably what we're getting.

i havent read the draft everyone is talking about yet still waiting to get a pm of it. But if it is the first draft of the script the writers have said they done a few more since then so things probably have changed/been expanded upon and all that.
