Batman & Robin: De-Assified
Okay, it was a rainy Tuesday afternoon. Waiting for the DVD to come. The mail came late. When I went to the mail box I saw inside a package. I ran inside my house and pulled out the dvd. It was the original Batman & Robin Cover in Keep Case form and had De-Assified and a Green Capt Special Edition Stamped on it. I opened the case (A CRACKED CASE BY THE WAY! Damn Post Office) and put the DVD in. A dark brood Main Menu popped up with two features. Play Movie and Chapters.
The Film Opens up with a skinnier WB Logo becoming frozen, then turning into the Batman emblem which breaks. We open up to the Museum. Many of the corny dialogue is erased and Mr. Freeze looks more like a Cold Hearted Villain then a Light Hearted Angry Member of Blue Man Group. The thing I thought was weird though was a Security Guard falling in the background later on in the scene. Hmmm....
Batman isn't as stupid as he appears in B&R, he doesn't have too many lines. But that is for the better. Robin isn't whiney, but Batgirl gets annoying. But they both fit their places as sidekicks and not main heroes.
Many of the God Awful Scenes have been cut such as the Bike Racing Scene. What I thought was the best improvement about this re-edit is that Bane and Poison Ivy don't work together. Bane is more like Mr. Zsasz in Batman Begins, and the ending would have set Bane up for the next film.
Some Scenes in the movie you cant edit out because its too important to the plot. Its just painful to watch Poison Ivy dance around in a purple gorilla costume to cheesy music. Also the horny old men bidding for younger women are still intact. Batman and Robin doing live appearences at events should never be! Whats next, birthday parties possibly?
At its best its still campy, but its much better. I give Batman & Robin: De-Assified **/****.
