Got an XBox, go Halo 2. Somtimes when I boot it up, maybe like 1 out of 20 times, it'll tell me the disc is scratched or dirty. Every other time it'll load up fine, but it won't load maps, like lockout. But if I boot it up again it'll load lockout fine, is this a problom with the disc or my XBox? The disc is pretty scratched up, but the XBox is also an original as it has a thomson drive.

Hmm.. it could be either, really. I don't know what to tell you, if the disc is pretty scratched up that very well might be the problem. :(

It could be the laser in your Xbox.
If you take it apart, you can clean the laser with canned air.
(It worked for my PS2).

There are two variables and no constants for this experiment. Try the disk in another Xbox and try another disk in your Xbox.

I don't know what to say. You should either return the 'Box, try boiling the disc (don't look at that weird, I'm telling you to BOIL the damn disc in a frying pan for a few seconds, it works) or try a scratch repair kit.. can pick those up at Best Buy or FYE or something like that.

I always fix disc problems by mushing toothpaste in a circular motion all around the bottom of it, then wash it off and carefully clean the rest off. It helps fill in the scratches a bit

Oh, and make sure there is nothing grainy about the toothpaste you use....R.I.P. Red Alert 2 Allies disc :(

I'm only friends with one other XBox owner and he's 500 miles away and I have no other XBox disc.

:O

TOOTHPASTE!!!?

Yeah, well, I sort of have a problem with smearing toothpaste all over my games, but I might try it.

after about 70 hours on oblivion, im starting to have some freezing problems and 'the disk needs to be cleaned blah blah blah'.

Try boiling the disc too.

Trust me, it works.. unless you leave it in long enough to break the disc. :(

I already boiled the disc, you do that to clean **** off of it, doesn't help scratches.

You are probably just getting grease and dirt off boiling it.

Toothpaste polishes the plastic and is even used sometimes to fix small scratches like on cars ....

Cleaning the laser is probably the easiest thing to do, and the least risky.

Maybe I'll just buy a new copy of Halo 2, if it's still being a *****, just wait till november for my 360 and play only new maps till then :(

Will you atleast try what I said? :(

I know, I wasn't suggesting it for scratches.

But usually where you have multiple scratches, you have alot of finger grease and dirt and other ****. :(

Brush halos teeth? I don't know why I would, I'd just buy a new disc if the disc was the problem, yeah? And the only toothpaste I have is grainy, it's that baking soda stuff, I like the way it makes my mouth feel :(
