Happy 4th of July!

Good morning. In less than an hour, aircraft from here will join others from around the world. And you will be launching the largest aerial battle in the history of mankind. "Mankind." That word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests. Perhaps it's fate that today is the Fourth of July, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom... Not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution... but from annihilation. We are fighting for our right to live. To exist. And should we win the day, the Fourth of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day the world declared in one voice: "We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight!" We're going to live on! We're going to survive! Today we celebrate our Independence Day!

So yeah, today, the good old US of A turns 231 years old. Which by most accounts is still a youngin' as far as nations go...in fact we're really just a young teenager if you compare to our older brother the United Kingdom, our cousins France, Germany, and the rest of the EU.

Maybe that's why we've been pissing people off occasionally...it's the hormones...:p

But anyway, Happy Birthday to The United States of America...here's to another 230+ years...

"I Sometimes I think that war is necessary
Every night I pray for peace on Earth
I hand out my dollars to the homeless
But believe that every able soul should work

My father gave me my shotgun
That I'll hand down to my son
Try to teach him everything it means

I'm a man of my convictions
Call me wrong
Call me right
But I bring my better angels to every fight.
You may not like where I'm goin'
But you sure know where I stand
Hate me if you want to
Love me if you can

I stand by my right to speak freely
But I worry 'bout what kids learn from TV
And before all of debating turns to angry words and hate
Sometimes we should just agree to disagree

And I believe that Jesus
Looks down here and sees us
If you ask him he would say

I'm a man of my convictions
Call me wrong
Call me right
But I bring my better angels to every fight.
You may not like where I'm goin'
But you sure know where I stand
Hate me if you want to
Love me if you can..."

Technically, the United States is one of the oldest nations in the world.

I meant compared to our European brethren, hell France has been around forever, and the UK has existed in some form or another for multiple centuries as well...but I'm no expert **shrug**

Well, the US government has been around longer than some of the current governments in Europe. The World Wars did quite a bit of damage to the old regimes.

Happy B-day.. I suppose

True, but while regimes come and go...a nation is not merely it's government (thank goodness) the nation, and the people that comprise it are still there.

True enough. Much respect to the other nations of the world.

But this is our day. That means it's our party, and only the cool nations are invited.
