Has any body written a book?

Interesting, but it sounds like some sort of Fast and the Furious movie. I'd also like to see more stories where the character doesn't have some world altering power. Why can't Joe just have really good smelling breath or something, lol.

Because that's less exciting.

Excitement > originality

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has written a book/novel or a long piece of fiction. I am thinking about writing one and I was hoping that with the amount of talent on here, someone would have some suggestions or advice on how to get started. Thanks.
I'm about halfway through a fantasy novel. I'm not in a position to give you advice on the level that those who have completed/had work published can but I thought I'd share my personal views anyway. My main advice is to write about a subject that you enjoy foremost over one that you think is a great idea or will sell well. When writing (or doing anything else) enjoying every minute of your work prevents it from feeling like a chore and not getting published won't stop you from feeling great just for finishing your work. I continually think about characters/events in my book not because I'm trying to develop ideas in my spare time but more from a fanboy perspective. I actually get excited about them in the way that I get excited about my favourite film characters. If you can feel for your characters and think through their minds even when you aren't writing they'll begin to take on a life of their own rather than you having to continually imagine what they would do/how they would act in a certain situation. I treat the chapters that I have finished as true historical events rather than stories from my imagination.

End of rant :) Good luck with your book.

Previous posts will probably help you more, but if you - like myself - are trying to get published, then I would start by sending short stories to some fiction mags. Once you've won a couple of competitions the Agents out there find it easier to find the time to read your work, and then if you go about corresponding with them in a way they see as professional, they will more than likley help you out. Even if they don't think you're quite ready, some, like sports Agents, will help in bringing your talent out and defining what you have. Also, somebody else said to 'read a lot and write a lot', truer words could not be spoken - I find that if I go through a spell of not reading, I also go through a spell of not writing; they are one in the same. Reading keeps your creative juices flowing. If you would like to see any of my short stories or novellas PM me by all means. It's a tough world for us writers, so it's nice to stick together.
