To add to this:
I found this interesting... in a review of Don Murphy's cohort's (Jane Hamsher) book it says:
"For example, as a joke, they [Murphy and Hamsher] once sent a Tarantino-bashing letter to the LA Weekly purportedly written by another of their enemies, Tarantino partner Lawrence Bender. The stunt backfired when the letter was traced back to them."

Yup. That would be Murphy. Underhanded, devious, B.S. Artist to the extreme.

Okay, my respect for Quentin Tarantino has gone way up. How could Don Murphy do such a childish thing?

I'd say that those "guerilla buzz" tactics are probably commonplace these days.

Think about it : A studio has already spent millions and millions of dollars one a movie. What's a few thousand more for buying a couple of internet posters to turn the word-of-mouth around ?

Strange time sindeed, ive mostly given up on this section and i guess the rest of the boards are turning similar to it

Im sure there are much worse instances of this out there. The DM boards are the root of all evil.

I know what you mean my respect went up as well even though I don't really like his movies.

In regard of the initially linked article, could you kindly direct your attention to Seibertron.com ?

First, the site was a spearhead of the fan movement against the movie. Then, the great and mighty Don Murphy directed his attention to and gave them a Q&A session (where he once again acted like a rabid chimp). Now the focus of the site went from "Megatron looks like a turd" to "Check out the great movie teaser page", with severely uncritical articles on the right of it.

Sure, the older, critical articles are still there - It would be too obvious to remove them entirely - but they've been pushed far away from central focus and seem to be on the verge of disappearing from the main page entirely.

Gee, wonder what Murphy bought Harry on AICN to keep Transformers on top of the news?

Given that accounts have apparently been hijacked at other boards it wouldnt surprise me if some spindoctors made their way into these boards in an attempt to drum up business.

And if accounts are being hijacked and posts are being made by mods or others in charge of boards that practice should be stopped. Thats despicable behavior, and should be illegal on some level. It's one thing to ban a poster its another to take over their account and make statements for them.

He's probably promised him all sorts of nifty, hot out of the molds, Transfprmers movie figures.

Well, all I can say is that nobody can buy me out if I don't like this turkey. I pride myself on making choices independantly of a large group of people.

It's a very interesting read. I know there are a lot of folks who followed this movie for two years and contributed to the various boards, who have just given up and aren't really anywhere to be seen anymore. I myself even stopped caring and stopped visiting the boards.... but then I heard about the Midget Jazz thing and that just riled me up.

I also know Murphy (or his mods) will take over a noobs account if he rants and they'll make fake posts on his behalf in order to make him look like an idiot by baiting the other folks or otherwise doing something that begs to be banned. I know because it happened to me.

Over at shootfortheedit... you have to walk VERY LIGHTLY lest you diss Michael Bay too hard and get banned by Nelson. What's funny about Nelson is that he's got a big mouth... and will admit crap I'm sure Bay never wanted advertised (such as him not wanting to do the movie until Hasbro offerred a cut of the toy sales). One rant is one rant too many for Nelson (which is funny... because obscenity filled, you guys are 'f*gg*ts, pro-Bay rants don't get you banned).

I sincerely doubt they'll be able to drown out the bad buzz. But, who knows. I think Murphy is downright obsessed with making the community look like idiots. It's sad.
No. Your an idiot.

Interesting article. I don't know how true it is because I don't go to those other sites but hopefully it doesn't happen here.

Very eloquent. Your reasoning is without flaw, user of numerals in place of letters.

Aint it cool news has had beef with don murphy for a very long time. They don't get along at all. For them to talk positive about a movie they have been talking positive about for a while, isn't surprising. They threw in a few negative things as well... along with other sites. This person who thinks the internet was bought, has hated this project since before 2004.

Read between the lines. Obsessed fans looking for reasons to hate this movie, damn it.

can anyone explain what the title of this thread means? "bought the internet"?

It implies that a tiny fraction of the enormous budget was used to make some critics on the internet shut up.

or could it be that don murphy didn't like having people on his website bad mouthing his ****? there is a limit where criticism becomes harrassment.

On a forum? Really? Well, it's his forum... he has every right to ban people.
But harrassment?... Have you seen some of Don Murphy's tirades in response to legitimate laments (whines)??? Talk about harrassment!
