Hatchet 2

Danielle Harris On Board for Hatchet 2!

Fans have been speculating just what next movie Danielle Harris was teasing about via her recent Twitter post. Now, both the actress and writer/director Adam Green have confirmed it. The Halloween alumna will be joining the cast of Hatchet 2 and going up against Victor Crowley as Marybeth, taking over the role originated by Tamara Feldman in the first film.

It comes as no surprise considering Harris appeared in Green's short film On The Road To Frightfest last year.

Green told us when we broke the news of his return exclusively right here that Kane Hodder will be back as Victor Crowley, while Robert Pendergraft will be taking over FX duties.

Hatchet 2 is currently in pre-production and is expected to roll at the beginning of 2010. Stay tuned for plenty more casting news as we hear it!

Still a little disappointed the original actress didn't return. They talked about it so much on the commentary. Oh well.

Cool. She so damn cute, she'll be a good fit.

Shes worked with Green before in those road to frightfest movies.

Good to see shes getting more exposure. I'm pumped for this movie. I was just I don't wanna say blown away when i first saw it, but I know I loved it.

His other film called Frozen comes out in February 2010 and its going into theaters.

EXCL: AJ Bowen, Tom Holland Join Hatchet 2!

Hot on the heels of last week's casting news that Danielle Harris would be playing the role of Marybeth in Adam Green's recently announced Hatchet 2, we now exclusively have two more names for you from the cast!

And for fellow die-hard horror fans, they’re both pretty darned cool.

Both AJ Bowen (The Signal, The House Of The Devil) and Tom Holland (yes, the director of Fright Night) are the latest additions to the cast of the production which begins shooting early next month.

"This whole thing all started from the heart, so as a rule everyone involved with the Hatchet movies is strictly family and friends," explains Green. "With AJ, obviously I loved him in The Signal and The House Of The Devil, and he really is a phenomenal actor. But when I met him through mutual friends outside of all the movie stuff and discovered what a normal great guy he is, I talked to him about the possibility of joining the Hatchet family and becoming part of the franchise. So I wrote the character of Layton with him in mind. We're all thrilled to welcome him on board."

AJ Bowen joins the cast as a hunter named Layton who Green tells us, "is part of a group that Reverend Zombie (Tony Todd) hires to go into the swamp to kill Victor Crowley."

"I was really surprised and excited when Adam called me in to talk about Hatchet 2," Bowen tells Shock. "To be offered the opportunity to join the family and the universe of this story is incredibly humbling. I'm a fan of just about every single person that's working on this film in a big way and I literally can not wait to work with them. Growing up a huge Friday The 13th fan, I'm looking forward to meeting Kane Hodder's Victor Crowley in the swamp."

Coming out of acting retirement is Tom Holland, who will play Marybeth's Uncle Bob, the brother of Robert Englund's character from the first film and one of the lead roles of Hatchet 2. "Fright Night is a big influence on me," says Green. "And from conversations I've had with Tom about that movie, he clearly gets how to make humor work with horror."

Prior to writing and directing the horror classics Fright Night and Child's Play, (as well as the Stephen King adaptations for Thinner and The Langoliers), Holland did quite a bit of acting under the stage name of Tom Fielding (also Tommy Lee Holland) and starred opposite Anthony Quinn in A Walk In The Spring Rain and even made an appearance on The Incredible Hulk TV series.

Hatchet 2, however, marks his first appearance in front of the camera as in actor in almost 25 years. (Not counting his brief cameo in The Stand.)

When asked if he was familiar with Green's previous films, Holland says, "Well, Adam is a friend. We had met at a Masters of Horror dinner and I looked at his work and was impressed, especially with Spiral."

"I could tell by listening to him, in the middle of all the gore and mayhem, he was an actor's director," continues Holland. "I started out as an actor, a fact I don't talk about much, but did with Adam, but I never expected him to cast me in anything! I was really surprised, and of course, pleased. I think it will be a lot of fun to work with him."

A quick scan over Hatchet 2's IMDB page reveals a few more names in the cast, one of note is actress Clare Grant who appeared in Green’s Star Wars themed short film Saber. While the IMDB isn't exactly the most reliable source, Green confirmed that she is in fact in the movie playing the character of "Avery."

As far as the tone of the Hatchet sequel, Green tells us "this one will not have as much humor as the first Hatchet. We were trying to get you to relate with all the characters in Part One and the quickest way to do that with anything is through comedy. But if you look at the first Hatchet film, it gradually gets darker and darker as it goes along so that by the end of it, it’s not quite as funny anymore. This one will pick up where the last one left off and will continue in that dark direction. Obviously the tone of the Hatchet world is all about good old fashioned slasher fun and the sense of humor that the first Hatchet film had was one of the things that endeared this huge fan base to it, so there will still be some laughs. But overall, things are gonna get a lot more intense across the board."

"While Hatchet 2 will have less laughs, the gore will continue to push the boundaries and it'll be even more in your face and over the top then in the first film," he reiterates. "Making the first Hatchet film was a passion project and a dream come true, and the fact that the genre fans embraced it and championed it into the success that it became is just mind blowing. I mean this was a little indie film made by friends that had no studio support, no high priced marketing campaign, no TV commercials, no billboards... it literally had nothing behind it except for the fans rallying together. It was the fan's support and word of mouth from our year and a half festival run that got Hatchet into theaters against all odds and then turned it into an epic win. So now five years later from the day we started shooting the first film, we’re so glad to get the band back together and pick up where we left off. The first day of shooting is just 25 days away and when Craig my A.D. yells 'Pictures up on Hatchet 2' that first day, it's going to be a very emotional moment for all of us who are a part of this."

Adam Green returns to write and direct Hatchet 2, which stars Danielle Harris, Tony Todd, AJ Bowen, Tom Holland, Clare Grant, R.A. Mihailoff (Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III), Kathryn Fiore and Kane Hodder as Victor Crowley.

I didn't like the first Hatchet, I thought it had potential but turned out lame overall. That being said, a sequel can easily be an improvement and I hope it turns out much better than the first. I'll give the second movie a look.

Bump!

SDCC '10: Live Bloggin' from the Hatchet 2 Panel

hatchet-panel.jpg
In moments, Adam Green and his cast from Hatchet II will take to the stage to discuss the follow-up to his 2007 slasher film. Keep refreshing this page for updates as we'll be live blogging this event!

Here we are at the Old School American Horror panel and Adam Green is awesome.

Green compliments the people who sat through the panel prior to this one which was something having to do with penguins.

He then says that he will show the crowd 8 kill scenes from the film but then said normally that would ruin a film but in Hatchet 2 there are 17 kills so no worries.

We then get the teaser trailer which is pretty short and sweet but doesn't give much away at all.

Nearly the whole cast is here including Green's new wife that actually plays a young Victor Crowley, Rileah Vanderbilt, and Danielle Harris (from the Rob Zombie Halloween flicks). Tom Holland makes his first acting gig since retiring. Kane Hodder is also in attendence and the gang is literally all here.

Parry Shen is asked how he can be in the second film after getting killed off in the first ... Shen says he plays his twin brother that his character in Hatchett 1 talked about.

We then get a first clip with Harris and Tony Todd, as the spooky Rev. Zombie. Harris looks as if she has been through hell already and talks about some of her friends being killed off. It describes a bit of the background of some of the characters in the film and how Thomas Crowley cheated on his ailing wife - complete with wet spot! Then his wife that was on her death bed curses the mistress and "They say the day Victor Crowley was born, the swamp mourned." It is a very good origin story that we only got parts of from the first film.

But the clip goes on and shows a number of the early kills that Crowley performed in his early days of being in the swamp after his father died - complete with face slashing fun. Good clip!

Harris talks about how she got the part and that originally she was supposed to be just a minor character in the film but when Tamara Feldman dropped out, she got the part.

Holland then talks about having fun on set and actually not working for a long time and waiting for the right film to come back and Green says he was waiting for a chance to use Holland, so it worked out well.

Kane Hodder then speaks and says that he believes Hatchet was the best horror movie he's ever done. He then says that Hatchet 2 is better. Excuse me, "f**king better." He says he killed 8 people in the first one and 17 in the second. Hodder talks about how Hatchet gave him an opportunity to do real acting rather than acting as a masked character. He says that he was able to do some real gigs outside of horror and in the horror genre as a result of his part in Hatchet.

Green then talks about how the whole cast and crew got his hard by swine flu saying "We all were ****ting and puking all over the place, it was the worse thing ever."

Clip #2: Two poor saps with guns in the dark hear something rumbling and then hear a chainsaw trying to be started. They open fire on a figure coming at them with said chainsaw and both dudes get sliced from groin to head at the same time in one seriously brutal, bloody, gory scene. Another good clip.

Green comments on the MPAA and trying to get an R rating and he says it is not possible. He states that the MPAA is saying that he can't do some of the scenes at all. One of the major theater chains, however, saw the movie and they are taking Hatchet 2 unrated and putting into theaters as an unrated movie. He promises more news on this soon and the lease agreement with the theater chain. This could mean 1,000 theaters or 500 theaters or 1, he doesn't know but it does "take away some of the power away from the MPAA c**ts."

Clip #3: A WWE style fight between Crowley and one of the bigger badass stars, goes for a long time until Crowley gets the upper hand and does a brutal table stomp on the dude's head severing it. Some of the best clips shown at SDCC this year.

Holland is asked how he and Green got together, Holland says that they met at a horror convention and became friends but he never thought he would be asked to do this movie with him.

Will there be a Hatchet 3? Not sure, Green said. And if there is, he is unsure of what involvement he will have. He then talks about Frozen's DVD release and that there are 90 minutes of extras on the DVD that he calls "the best special features on a DVD ever."

Interesting that Green says his reps and managers told him not to do Hatchet 2 because he has gotten some awards for some of his other films but he went ahead and did it anyway.

Green also rants about all the remake horror films and if people would go see original movies, there would be more horror films that are original rather than few and far between.

Green is doing a film with Christopher Columbus called Killer Pizza that is a campy type horror-comedy that he said he grew up with.

They show the teaser again and this time we can actually see it. It does what a teaser should do and keeps you guessing as to what will happen. That's the end of the panel.

So how did this turn out?
Won't matter really because I've already bought both of them at blockbuster for a few bucks, just wondering how Hypesters who liked the first, which I did, felt about the second?

I thought it was terrible. I still love Danielle Harris but I'm not even going to bother with Hatchet 3

I loved it actually. The first was a surprise to me, but the new one topped it for me. I mean it was way over the top, and the story was more or less a rehash of the first with a little different of setup, but it was pretty cool anyway. I loved the last couple kills, though I felt really bad
for the main character's "uncle". He may have acted like a jerk at first, but he really loved her and did not deserve what happened.

I'm really digging the Hatchet franchise and am thrilled to hear that Adam Green does plan on returning to it for future instalments.
It's great to see Kane Hodder in an acting role, and he does a great job.
I got to admit though, I felt that despite all the amazing kills in Hatchet 2 some of the setup was overlong and not that interesting, it could of done with a bit more editing when Reverend Voodoo had rounded everyone up and was conning them into coming along to get Crowley.
The back story was awesome though.

Did you like the first one though?

Yeah , I thought it was decent. Glad you enjoyed it though, I like the film's intent but there was too much plodding through the story for me.

Hatchet 1 and 2 are both awesome, IMO. Hstchet 3 is happening. The question is, will Adam return to direct or not?

^^He unfortunately isn't a lock for director, but it sounds like they will at least be using his story.

http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/19620http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=75444

Dark Sky Films dropped a little late-day news on us with the announcement of Hatchet 3, based on the success of Hatchet 2's VOD and DVD release.

At this time, cast and crew details (including director) are being worked out.

Hatchet creator Adam Green, however, reiterates: "We already had a possible storyline for 'Hatchet 3' worked out before we began shooting 'Hatchet 2,' so my cast, crew and I are beyond excited to see that the story and legacy of Victor Crowley will indeed continue. For a little indie movie that I dreamt up when I was just eight years old, it has been absolutely surreal to watch it turn into a modern-day slasher franchise."

Hatchet 3 will continue the saga of Crowley, the "Bayou Butcher," who first made his gruesome mark in 2007's Hatchet. Hatchet 3 will continue where the story left off in Hatchet 2.

The threequel is being produced by ArieScope's Cory Neal, producer of the previous two hits.

^^ I remember reading that, yeah. I do hope he's directing though. He represents some of the most fun things about horror/slasher films in his Hatchet films.
