Hatchet 2

Finished it last night and thought it was a great mix of horror and dark humor.

Still have to get to the special features, but I'm definitely game for a sequel.
Director Adam Green said it's his omage to slasher flicks of the 80's. He talks about it in the features. The making of feature is good. It talks how it got from pre-production to finished product.

Every time I see the title HATCHET it pisses me off, because I always think it's an adaption of the Gary Paulson book.

Bah.

I'll get around to that tonight or tomorrow night.

Definitely felt those similarities in it.

Yeah, it's a throw back to the 80's. He's like what the f is PG-13 horror?

While I understand Hollywood's need to toss out PG-13 horror/remakes. That definitely feels like a step back in regards to things. That's not to say that certain horror films aren't deserving of said rating.

This movie was definitely worthy of its unrated cut.

These throw backs to the 80's have got to stop.

Am I the only one who remembers that most horror films in the 80's sucked especially if it was a sequel to anything with the words, Halloween, Friday, or Nightmare in it? They did not have great quality scares at all. They were more about laughing your ass of at the ridiculous ways people died in them or the stupid characters.

That's not to say there wasn't great quality horror films in the 80's but most of them were not good in the slightest. If you are gonna throw back to the 80's try to make a good movie that SCARES you. Not crap like Hatchet and My Bloody Valentine 3D. (which I will admit I enjoyed only because of the 3D, but scary it was not.)

I'm not saying all PG-13 is bad. But if you have a slasher film it better be R rated.

Like in the Prom Night remake people were stabbed but it was eithr cut away or there was no blood on the knife. Its like with certain topics certain things need to have a certain rating.

Completely agree. Especially under the circumstances of remaking an R movie into a PG-13 flick.

The PG-13 thing is rather lame, I will admit and I feel that all horror films should be rated R, but some deal with subjects that don't necessarily mandate the R rating. Most however do. The Prom Night remake was terrible, there wasn't even cuts on the clothing where the knife stabbed into!

In the "Unrated" version of Prom night there is a little blood.

The boyfriend's throat is slashed more that's about it.

Then i guess you just don't get the point of it.

:whatever:
For God's sake. Seeing what he wrote, he obviously did get the point. I got the point too but as other people have said, it didn't live up to the hype. I thought it was a very enjoyable gore flick but nothing more. I didn't think it was funny or scary at all. Jesus, if you don't like it as much, it doesn't mean you didn't get the point of it. I got that it was a throwback to the oldschool slasher flicks with some dark humor thrown in and I just don't think like he did, that it was executed very well.
Get off your f***ing high horse.

I'm surprised that a quality movie of that book hasn't been made yet.

That's why I get mad every time I hear the name HATCHET. It gets my hopes up.

Hatchet was way over hyped and a bit overrated in my opinion. It had it's moments, it was very cool movie, the special effects were awesome and amazing and the characters in the film were very fun to watch. With that said, the plot and direction were lacking on so many levels. Yes, it was a throw back to the 80's slasher and with that, I can respect it. I enjoy watching it. In fact, I watched it last week.

My real issue with it was something was completely missing in the film. I can't place my finger on it, but it didn't set well with me. I'm really watching the movie and thinking "Really? This was what had so much Hype and won awards??" For a cheap independant film, it's very good for a horror film...but I'm still a bit let down by it in some way.

But no less, Hatchet is a fun watch.

Green talks Hatchet 2

What's the latest on Hatchet 2?
Hatchet 2 is supposed to shoot at the beginning of next year. I shouldn't say, "supposed to." It's definitely going to shoot at the beginning of next year. At this point I have not accepted the offer to come back just yet, but I'm hoping it's going to work out that way. It all depends on scheduling, which has been the problem so far. Because they wanted to do it a month after the first one came out, but I had Spiral to do. I had Grace, I had Frozen. I think we have a good window of time for me to come back and do it. But they have to do it no matter what at this point, and I hope I get to do it but it's going to depend on the TV show.
How might it differ from the first Hatchet? Will we get a similar tone and feel, or are you aiming for something different?
It's hard to say right now because if I don't come back I don't know what it's going to be. But if I come back it's going to start on the same frame [that] the first one ended [on] and just keep going. Kane [Hodder] would be back, Tony Todd would be back, and a couple of other people would be back that you might not expect to see back, which I think would be exciting. It's going to top the first one in terms of gore and bloodshed. One of my stipulations in coming back is that I don't need to get a rating by the MPAA this time, which they have agreed to. So that would be great if I could just do it completely ungraded, ‘cause the first time I went through such a hard time with them over it, so this time I can go crazy and do whatever I want. Hopefully the scheduling works out and I get to do it.

Wow, awesome news that they'll start filming early next year! I wonder if Victor will look the same?
