HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX!!!

Helena Bonham Carter (Fight Club, Hamlet, Planet of the Apes) has been cast as the villainous and mercurial Bellatrix Lestrange in the new Harry Potter film. The role is that of a sadistic female compatriot of Ralph Fienne's "Voldemort" and is a relative (a cousin if my memory serves me right) to Garry Oldman's "Sirius Black". Fans/readers of the fifth book know that Lestrange plays an important role in the books most memorable moment. This is terrifc casting and gives me a nice little Harry Potter fix, something that seemed to have gone away after the Goblet of Fire seemingly quenched my desire for a tight and personal thriller of a Harry Potter film. There looks like there is more to be looking forward to. I'm sure that Lestrangbe, despite her extremely brief (almost cameoish) appearance in the pages of the Half-Blood Prince, will have an expanded and hopefully juicy role in the as-yet-untitled seventh and final Harry Potter installment.

Great news for Harry Potter fans!

Also, while not being reported anywhere (which means that at this point, take it as nothing short of a rumor that is to be taken with an extremely sizable serving of salt), the teaser trailer for The Order of the Phoenix could show up as early as Superman Returns.

If this doesn't pan out, then the next time we could expect it is with a big WB family film (Happy Feet, which looks terrific) or another big "young sorcerer" epic film (Eragon, haven't seen much, not interested till I do).

I think putting a little teaser with Superman Returns would be a brilliant movie for the company, it'd be a nice little dose of deja vu, because the Superman Returns teaser was attached to all prints of the Goblet of Fire.

Again, can't say enough about how much salt to take with this. I'm talking about the amount of salt that Cartman would put on his fries in an episode of South Park. Saltorama.

(Just covering my butt on this one...) :)

i heard the original choice got pregnant and wasn't able to take part in the film anymore

Yeah, I think that's what the BBC report that was put up on the mainsite of comingsoon.net said. Nice to hear from you, Obsidian! Haven't seen you in a while!

Thats awesome news...although she is a bit...pretty...for Bellatrix.

aw ****. I wanted her for tonks. oh well.

ah I see on imdb they've already got a tonks... heh

She was always who I had imagined for Bellatrix. Awesome news! The Harry Potter films always attract the best acting talent.

Yeah, giving this thing it's own thread was pretty unnecessary. My bad on that one. I just thought it was really cool. It seems like every decent british actor or actress finds their way into this series and I just couldn't be happier. It's nice to get Harry Potter news, just wanted to share with those who hadn't heard. :)

It's pretty strange replacing an unknown actress with such a well known actress.

Who was the original choice?

Helen McCrory..a British Stage Actress I think..she was in "The COunt of Monte Cristo" with James Caviezel and Guy Pierce, as Countess Villefort

Carter is a terrific choice for Lestrange. Very inspired in my opinion, but it is a wonder they didn't try to get her first... Could be a scheduling issue or something, or perhaps McCrory was just pretty damned good. I guess we'll never know... until there are interviews and behind the scenes documentaries flying at us in every direction.

She's also a bit pretty to be a chimpanzee, but that didn't stop her...

This was the original choice, Helen McCrory
