Hey guys I was just wondering if any of you could give me a helping hand here. I was sorting through some old comics that were bought by my gran and her sons (my uncle) and in the first box, first comic was...

Capt America Vol 1 Issue 111 from 1969, just i remember that was when Steranko did some great work and would it be of any.. "worth" ? Not that i'm a money grabbing SOB but my grans pretty interested in how something so cheap back then could gain 'interest' saying as she knows issue 100 is pretty valuable in M/NM condition.

Also from memory there is Daredevil issue 42, 1968 and a misc comic called The Green Planet by Charlton Comics from around the same era.

Any help here is greatly appreciated!

These are mid-level books in collectability, certainly not worthless, but you're not a millionaire. There's nothing exceptionally "key" about these issues, and they aren't super super rare or sought after, but some people like old comics because they're old comics so they have some worth.

In this particular case, without actually seeing the books and making any judgement on their condition, a Captain America #111 is an early Steranko, and is worth about $100 if it looks brand new (which it probably doesn't). A Daredevil #42 is a $30 book at near mint

I'm not familiar with The Green Planet, but if it's this V book, CPG prices it at about $120 at near mint

if you want to move the books, your best bet for the best money is to get a hi-res scan so other people can see the detail and the condition of the book, and throw them up on ebay

Thanks for your expertise and help! The green planet one is actually that exact one, im going to take some scans ASAP of the comics, the Ctp A issue is actually in excellent condition as is the Green Planet. Thanks again.

Since we are on the subject something i really never understood (whihc of course i havent been into comics as long as most people here) But why does the value of comics increase greatly if it has been CGC graded? Fist issue of spiderman is around $48,000 (near mint), but the CGC vaule is $242,000 (near mint).

I got those prices from CPG

don't pay attention to the CPG CGC graded prices, they're completely inaccurate and I really wish they'd take them down. There's no real basis for them, anyhow, they just take a standard multiplier to the estimated value of the ungraded copy

CGC books price higher than ungraded books usually only if you go in to the 9.0s. The normal terms for grading comics are much broader than the decible system, and what most people might call "nearmint" for an ungraded copy can span from an 8.5 to a 10.0. Some collectors are so anal though, as to really really really really want a prestine copy of a book, and will pay more to have 9.4 copy of a book over a 9.2. CGC is also a (somewhat) well respected company, and collecters take their word that a book they say is 9.4 is better than a book that's 9.2. Books 9.4 and higher are also rarer as you go up, much rarer. CGC has only given out a couple hundred "10s" out of thousands and thousands of graded books
