So... I'm hosting an adult birthday party (turning 32, and guests are between my age and down to 20-ish), and I really need some help coming up with some ideas for this party.

The plan is to have the guests chose months in advance if they wanna be a hero or a villain, and then the guests will of course be in costumes, dressed as a well-known hero or villain (not necessarily super heroes and super villains). And then the first part of the party will be a series of game/contests, like trivia quizzes, drinking games, etc.

But I need some expertise help , and I thought to myself that a place like this might be my best shot :) So... What I need help/ideas for are the following:

Missions. I wanna make small hero/villain missions that each guest will be given, or can earn. But what could those missions be?? I was thinking along the lines of personal missions that will be handed to each guest, like for example someone dressed as Batman will get a mission/bonus where he can chose to take the guest dressed as Joker out of a game/contest, to give the heroes an advantage. And then missions that can be earned, which can fit anyone and be used on anyone, for example "Capes are for wimps" where someone can make a hero or villain with a cape skip a turn, or "who wants to get super with me" which can be used by a hero to turn a villain into a hero if the villain choses to, etc.

So... I'm open for ANY suggestions as far as missions (or something along those lines) goes. I know, it's kinda tricky and difficult, but give it your best shot :)

And please be serioius. Thanks for your time and efforts, and remember: With great power comes great responsibilities! :O

You can create mini missions or tasks, but I don't think you can get guests to choose months in advance what they want to be. From experience with these sorts of parties, guests often put something together last minute, and it's whatever is easiest without having to spend too much money (ie something from their own wardrobe).

And for women, it's often something like Lara Croft (because that's relatively easy to do), or a Bond girl (which is just an evening dress). Guys will sometimes come as Bond because they don't have to put much effort or imagination into putting on a tuxedo they already own.

If they have to put too much effort or spend too much, they won't bother to turn up, or they'll just end up coming dressed casually.

I would not make the tasks too difficult at all as people will be put off playing. I think they just want to enjoy themselves socialising and having dressed up.

You could just get them to play a game. Look up party games online for ideas.

Suggestions:

- Don't have a birthday party after age 30, except for the big ones like 40, 50, 75, etc. They are trite.

- If you must have a birthday party, don't do a theme. Its lame. Just get a keg and let people have fun on their own terms.

Actually, all the people I know have always enjoyed fancy dress parties, and not just at birthday parties but general fancy dress for whatever event. But they can't be too difficult otherwise people will be put off.

But I don't think you should bother with the missions. Just let people socialise. That's what they're there for anyway to meet other people more than to celebrate your birthday.

Well first, you clearly don't know our group and friends and how we like to do things like this :) I made the event on facebook three days ago for April 8th, and there's already 15 people who has applied yes, and half of them have already chosen who they'll dress up as, and so far it's characters like Batman, Superman, Bane, Joker, Poison Ivy, Cruella de Vil, Harley Quinn, Catwoman, and even Power Puff Girls. We enjoy theme parties :woot:

Second, They will be dressed up and divided heroes and villains, competing against each other in various, and already planned out, party games and trivias while consuming a lot of alcohol. The missions are supposed to spice up the game rules, giving teams, or characters, advantages at certain stages.

Or... Or... Maybe stick to the subject and don't mock the idea or talk down to me? :whatever: And as I mentioned above, we like these kind of theme parties sometimes, and I can assure you that we do indeed have fun, play party games, get drunk, and then at some point the theme party ends and we hit the clubs.

Exactly the same with our group. We have themed birthday parties, Halloween parties etc, and yes also sometimes fancy dress parties. And yeah, I'm not thinking of making advanced mission or anything like that. It should be small and simple things, that can give a character, group or team advantages. Just like if we were playing a board game or a video game.

Again, this isn't the first time we've done stuff like this, and honestly I wouldn't dream of doing it, not to speak of spending hours upon hours on planning, and probably also spend a bunch of money, if I wasn't sure the guests/our group would find it awesome :)
