- No DC logo in the trailer?
- No based on the DC Comics credit?
- Being distrubuted by Lions Gate (!) and not Warner?

Previous DC movies: Batman Begins, Constantine, V for Vendetta, Superman Returns, The Dark Knight and the upcoming Watchman all had the DC logo. Why not the Spirit?

I was wondering about this myself. Does DC own the earlier Spirit comics? I know that the title was published by Dark Horse in the late 90's.

If someone knows the thorough history, we'd appreciate it!

Because it doesn't incorporate any of the current Dwayne Cook Post-Infinite Crisis continuity. A strict reading of Will Eisner's will only gives DC the rights to the character and supporting cast, not his previous exploits (and even then, only so long as his other heirs recieve "just compensation").

Because DC doesn't own the Spirit, The Eisner estate does*. DC just creates and publish the current comics. The comic rights have basically been licensed to them the same way the Spider-Man film rights have been licensed to Sony.

*At least I believe that's the case, correct me if I'm wrong.

No, I'm pretty sure your right although DC does own the archives. Its kind of like the Shadow, At the time of the 1994 film, it was being published by Dark Horse. But, it has been published by so many companies since its debut, it was just its own film. I think thats why the Spirit movie isn't DC. Also from the looks of the movie, it seems to only be loosely based off the character so I don't think DC would be braggin too much about it if they did own the character. Lol

The Shadow is owned by Cond'e Nast Publications. They lease the rights out to third parties.

The real question is, why are they making The Spirit look just like Sin City?

One word...............................................Miller. ):

Sin City is Sin City. The Spirit is not.

It's the same comic book Noir genre. It fits the subject matter. I see no reason why he shouldn't use it.

Especially since, if you read The Spirit and Sin City back to back, you will see that the single biggest influence on Sin City, stylistically, was The Spirit.

Theres I big difference, don't kid yourselves. keep the properties that are of Sin City, to Sin City and To The Spirit, properties of The Spirit. Don't get 'em mixed up :-)
