Felt like this needed to be here, I'm surprised there aren't any forums for it. Then again, films like V For Vendetta, Constantine, LXG, The Spirit, even Jonah Hex deserve some place. Contrary to popular belief DC did adapt a fair amount of comics in the last 10 years, granted that not all of them are mainstream super-hero oriented, but they are powerful films in their own right. I loved Watchmen and I know there are others here who share that passion. Any related discussion, plots, characters, etc. should go here.

There did used to be a Watchmen forum, it had some of the best discussion on the site. I used to lurk there a lot, and enjoyed reading a lot of the to and fros between folk in the lead up to the movie's release.

The movie was pretty damn good in places, the impact of the book's ending was lost though I felt. It's a good appendage to the book, the book is in a different class all of it's own though, a true masterpiece of art.

fairly sure theres still a thread out there somewhere for this oh well. Its odd that I happenned to see this rightbefoe I closed out, because no lie Im about to watch the 4 hour ultimate cut right now.

Cool redhawk! I haven't seen the ultimate cut yet, but I was watching Tales of the Black Freighter and was kinda sad that there wasn't a thread on this around here. I guess I missed out on the discussions that thebumwhowalks is talkin about.

What I love about the Black Freighter story-within-a-story is how it manages to speak true to the big themes of annihilation that the characters in Watchmen were dealing with. That, and the nod to EC-comics and Rorshach's violent nature in general.

I enjoy watching the movie a lot. I haven't seen the Ultimate Cut, but I do prefer the theatrical version to the director's cut.

It's a good appendage to the book, the book is in a different class all of it's own though, a true masterpiece of art.

I like that there's the book, the movie and even the motion comic. I find them all interesting. I never get sick of the story because of all that Moore put into it.

And the movie does play around a bit with some of the ideas (esp. with the changed ending), but I find that that's interesting too.

Looking back now, the story is pretty esoteric to work as a mainstream movie, so it's funny to think about all the hype and the buildup before the movie came out. But I'm glad that it was made and that Snyder made it. Yeah, it could've been made more "gritty" and less "blockbuster" but I do like the movie a lot. The characters especially were pretty much all well-realised onscreen.

I agree. And apart from the action sequences, the film didn't feel like a blockbuster. Sure, there was the glamour and the vibrant costumes depicting each era, but I think that was essential to the characters. The soundtrack, allusions to all the cultural highlights of the decades, and the lack of big-Hollywood-names on the cast helped remove it from the typical block-buster conventions.

Watchmen is the greatest comic book movie of all time. I don't care what anyone else thinks.

Zack Snyder is a genius.

I love Watchmen. Ackerman gets too much flack.

@ HappyJack - I meant which comic book/superhero film DO you think is the best one out there?
