Just curious...what are the basics to setting up your own webpage?
- What system requirements do you need?
- How much does it cost?
- How can you update it?
- How do you add new features to it (forums, galleries, etc.)

In other words...what makes a good website?

Usually to make a good website, you need to pay for it. You can make a website and/or forum for free...but they're not that good.

- What system requirements do you need? A pc thats on the net...
- How much does it cost? Depends/ servers like Angelfire are free, ones with a domain name and server cost say $70 a year
- How can you update it? Make the pages on your pc and upload them to the server
- How do you add new features to it (forums, galleries, etc.) Forums you can also get for free and link to them, others you have to pay for, as for galleries you can make one of them anyway with which ever server you choose.

If you just starting out with this i would highly recommend you get a free server first just so you can get the basics of what its all about HTML codes and what not, this way your not wasting any money on somthing you might not like or use. The downside to free web hosting is limited bandwidth if your site is popular it will only allow a certain amout of people to vist it a day

what's apache?

i bought a domain on godaddy.com, they have deals frequently, so that's somewhere you might wanna check out

I use construction paper and elmers glue to make my website. I don't get many hits though.

If you have to ask what Apache is, you probably have no business trying to set up a site using it. It's a popular opensource web server but it takes some technical fortitude to be able to configure, run and maintain it. You've probably taken the best course of action for your needs.

There are two hosting services that I'd recommend: Blue Host and 1&1.

There are some "free" sites, but there not much more than a myspace system. Anything good you'll have to pay for.

I fixed your tags, jag.

Personally, I recommend 1&1. [Didn't I tell you about them, jag?]. It's what I'm leaning towards getting once I finally devote enough time to start a site of my own.
