I've tried the Windows>System>Drivers>Etc>Hosts but the edits cannot be saved in Vista (mine is Home Basic) and I use dynamic IP addressing which I prefer for own purposes. So how do I do it?

I dont have vista with me, but in other OS's from microsoft its been the same...
YOu can edit it, but it wont save it?

You SHOULD be able to save it if you're an administrator.

Instead of setting the restricted website to your IP, set it to the loopback address 127.0.0.1.

Can't you just go into control panel and change the Firewall exceptions?

I didn't think vista had the capability to restrict a website based on the URL through firewall rules. My VM of vista doesn't.

You can save them.

1. Open the host file as a text file.
2. Save it onto your desktop.
3. Rename the old host file to host.old.
4. Copy the text file host.txt into your windows/system32/drivers/etc folder.
5. Remove the txt extensions
6. ??????
7. Profit

Or you could just use Vista Parental Controls.
