This is an origin movie so obviously we won't be seeing Iron Man from the get go but how far into the movie should they wait before showcasing Iron Man ?
Now i'm not talking about the escape armour but the full armour most of us know(the yellow and red one)

In BB they waited almost an hour before Batman appears but that was a different scenario, they had a lot of bridge rebuilding to do and needed to set the stage
Iron Man is fresh and i feel he needs to be showcased by the half hour point personally even if it's just a glimpse of what he can do it whets the appetite.

Assuming the film is around an hour and a half to two hours, I'd say 30-40 minutes.

Spider-Man, he didn't become Spider-Man until about 40 some minutes in. Hulk was almost an hour. X-Men...they were already X-Men. :p

Hopefully there'll be a good origin. But also, I hope it doesn't take too long to get him in the armor!

They should do a big clunky "original" suit then show him tweak it into the red and yellow.:yay: Okay maybe not, just get right to the red and yellow.

I'd suggest the movie have an opening sequence similar to Daredevil with Stark suited up and kicking butt and then fill in the origin with flashback segments. I'm sure that the special effects will be the real star of this movie so why not start it off with a bang?

Look to past examples with the Hulk, Punisher and Fantastic Four and you can see that overdoing the backstory messed up the pacing of those movies.

I wouldn't mind that instead of the traditional long drawn out origin

If this movie is 2hr. long, then he should be Iron Man no later than 45 min into the movie, but no earlier than 30 min. I'd say preferably closer to 45, though.

I agree Spider-Fan930, although I would choose at least an hour. Why rush the movie, so many comic book movies rush to get to the hero, but you lose so much character and plot storylines. I would wait at least an hour. Superman wasn't in his outfit until 50 minutes into the movie (Superman the Movie), but I guess it does depend on the how long the movie is. I would take a guess and say 2hrs and about 15-20 min long.

Hmm...I'd say probably after the first 30 to 45 mintues.

And looking through the Q & A thread again, Favreau was asked and then later responded about a possible length for the film:

Hello, My Name is MikeWrote:

1.Would you like the movie to be be 2 hours plus,

to develop story and make fans happy,

or are you more keen tho the shorter fast paced 100 minute style(ala X-MEN 3, though it was great)

Jon Favreau:

1. I would prefer under two hours

27 minutes ... just before you look at your watch and go ... what the heck ... is he going to put the friggin suit on?

Banner was too long, spidey was about right but even then it was a bit long.

1 to 10 on who Tony is and what he does
11-25 on getting hammered and losing it
26 to 27 puts on suit to save city ...

about 15 seconds

no but seriously I would say 40 mins to 1 hour

IMO, Batman Begins was a better movie before he suited up. Whereas, the Hulk's wait was nearly intolerable. Given good writing, the wait shouldn't be an issue. Rushing him in to the red & gold would be a mistake. Given the modest 125 million budget, I doubt that mistake will be made. They'll save the bulk of the budget and most of the suit's screen time for the second half of the film.

i tend to go with the fast start - even if it means eventually
slowing down to a pace to introduce and develop the
characters ( ala tony stark, james rhode, mandarin etc.)
...but the key is not to keep too much into a
developmental pace to where the movie slows
to a painful crawl like " HULK " the beginning could
showcase IRON MAN suit and a few weaponry
.... while also clueing on Mandarin's powers and ruthless sinistery.

But the interest has to capture and " wow" us early
- maybe even with the fasinating robotechnology
and cybernotics will get it started while we get
accustomed to Tony Stark.

If not immediate fast start, the definitely after 30 minutes ...

the 1st SPIDERMAN movie probably remains the
best example of character development/action adventure
among thesuperhero adventures movie.

As with any superhero adventure movie, the success
or failure will totally be in the hands of the director.

i couldn't agree more. almost every marvel movie heretofore has has a fairly action-less first half an hour or so. more of them need to start off with a nice action scene, then dial it back a few notches and tell the story.

/Signed. Let the flick open with a cool scene with Tony whuppin ass on some lame-o like Blizzard or Whirlwind, or hell, even better, the Beetle. Somebody with a "suit" preferably.

Then do the flashback, maybe while CNN or someone is doing a story on him.
