Guys, just a reminder to use spoiler tags on this one, at least for the next week or so.

Thank you. :yay:

The twist, for anyone who is curious.

Holly Jones (Melissa Leo) is the murderer.

Here's my review for anyone interested. Seriously did not expect what I saw yesterday...I mean, would never call it the "NEXT SE7EN" but it held it's own as such a compelling mystery!

Anyone think that ending/reveal with [BLACKOUT]Holly[/BLACKOUT] seemed a little too long?

This looks so, so good and I'm hearing great things.

Anyone else think Paul Dano could make a good Joker?
Me and my girlfriend were saying the exact same thing when we left the theater.

Saw this movie last night. It was so intense! Fantastic acting was done by everyone especially Hugh Jackman and Paul Dano. There were a lot of twists and turns.

Well I saw it last night and it is indeed really well made although I kinda figured the reveal mid way through the film, not to say it was my only guess. I was hoping it would go another way but oh well. The performances was amazing just as expected and I don't know who did the cinematography but it looked gorgeous especially on the big screen.

Roger Deakins, I'm sure you'll recognize that name.

Ah! I had a feeling it was him.

Great movie, great twists that make sense and great performances

Holy crap, I just got back from seeing this, and it was seriously fantastic. I never would've expected something so dark and grim. It's just consumed with dread and doom from the very first frame. It might be the best movie of its genre since Se7en; Zodiac and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo are up there too.

And that's another thing. This feels like it came right out of David Fincher's lens. And that's a compliment. It is just supremely intense and atmospheric, and Jake Gyllenhaal absolutely nailed that part. That was his best performance ever.

10/10, easily. Maybe the best movie of the year.

Everyone in the cast deserves an Oscar nomination. Every. Single. Performer. Best ensemble cast I've seen in a long time.

I saw it this morning. Then I went to Toys R Us and almost immediately saw a woman momentarily lose sight of her child in the store. :wow:

The movie is pretty incredible. I think I kinda had the reveal spoiled by some jerk in a comments section of one of the reviews I read this week, but it didn't ruin how everything played out. And there were still a bunch of twists I didn't see coming, or thought would play out differently.

But it was dark, disturbing, and creepy as all hell. Hugh and Jake were amazing, and I loved Viola Davis as well. Her scene with Paul Dano just broke me. My nephew has a stuffed animal turtle he goes nowhere without, so her showing him her daughter's bunny...all I could think of was my nephew's turtle, and the thought of all that is terrifying.

I thought the movie was great, though. Left lots to consider about all that happened.

Saw it, it was very well done. The moral is basically that desperation can lead to a much darker path than you think.

The scene with the [BLACKOUT]hammer[/BLACKOUT] almost reminded me of the scene from I Saw The Devil, but i'm glad they pulled back.

I was at the early show, with an audience that was predominantly older...there were audible gasps a few times at a few of those scenes. And when [BLACKOUT]Jake was checking out that first basement and the minister jumped on him,[/BLACKOUT] a woman in front of us screamed out loud.

Saw it for a third time tonight. The amount of detail and subplots upon subplots makes this film easy to watch over and over again.

Yeah, it's pretty spectacular how it all came together, being the only way it could've come together. What Jackman does is ultimately necessary for the end result, in a twisted way.

Just got home from seeing and I am utterly amazed how good it is. You really never know who the hell did it until they basically come out and say it. The acting was phenomenal and the subplots really made the movie.

Also Jake would have made an amazing Batman as well as Dano being an amazing Joker.

I agree this was an amazing movie! The acting was top-notch all around and the plot just kept me glued to the screen. And the cinematography just made everything look real and stark. I also couldn't help but notice that it was apparently shot in 1.85:1 instead of the usual 2.40:1, which actually added to the immersiveness.

The only thing that bugged me in the movie was the scene where Detective Loki
found the crates to be full of snakes and didn't close any of them before opening another crate - I mean, was he expecting the snakes to not crawl out?

This was definitely by far one of the best mystery/suspense movies that I've ever seen, and Jackman and Gyllenhaal really brought it. Jackman definitely scared me in certain ways that I never would've imagined, while Gyllenhaal was more low-key but his eyes always said it all.

The kid who played Jackman's son looked really familiar so I had to look him up online, had forgotten he played Jack's son in Lost.

I'd put this in the same breath as Seven, Zodiac, and Silence of the Lambs. Really the best thriller in years. I don't know when we'll see a thriller this on the edge of your seat intense again.

You can tell the movie is doing its job when the average joe movie goer in a much smaller theater is just as engaged and reactive to the film as film enthusiasts from Toronto in the enormous Princess of Wales theater.

The thing is, this story is a story we've seen before. It just shows with the right execution it can exceed what we've seen before. It's all in the script first.

Also, best score I've heard all year. So ominous, so subtly emotional.

I want to at least see Jake Gyllenhaal score an Oscar nomination. This role makes me believe he would have made a great Batman. The quiet contemplative, cold nature of this character could easily translate to him. It's not a stretch to believe if I loved Jake as this character I could love him as Batman. But being how that's not gonna happen, no use really thinking about it. What I got out of this was my favorite character in movies in a long time.

Jake was great in Enemy as well, but overall, Enemy is a far less interesting film (too abstract for my tastes) than Prisoners. I agree with Doc Jones on all points. Gyllenhaal's character is the most interesting characters I've seen on screen in years. He gave a phenomenal performance, and stole the show in every scene he was in.

He was so fascinating. I think given the fact his name is Loki makes him even more intriguing. Is it even his real name? You only get one line about his past but that's it. Nothing much is explained about his character. He has these tattoos, a peculiar ring that has what significance to him exactly? He has this tic, he walks eschewed, and he doesn't wear a belt or a tie, but still buttons up his shirt completely. I doubt a whole lot of this was in the script if any. These are mostly actor/director contributions.

He's not your typical detective character we've seen before. Hell, he isn't completely the most trustworthy guy just by all of the things I listed. He's a guy who looks more like he was on the other side of the law at once point than on it. I read somewhere Gyllenhaal said at one point he was a prisoner in his life (hence the boys home reference) but I'm thinking he served some prison time as well. He's about as mischievous looking as his name suggests. You don't even know his first name!

He's an enigma really. But you're captivated by him by his fascinating and strange introduction. You know this is something we haven't seen him in before.

The thing is, as much as I love Christian Bale, Gyllenhaal fit this role like a glove. He's young enough where the character is required, but looks old enough to believe his reputation as an effective detective from past cases. On paper, he's your typical young and brash detective, but Gyllenhaal and Villeneuve gave him so much more layers that I think if it was another combo like Bale and Singer it wouldn't have been as unique and intriguing.

And despite all of his idiosyncrasies, you like him. Alot.
