I am thinking of getting into the Incredible Hulk comic (among others) and I am wondering something about the previous issues. The Incredible Hulk Vol. 1: Return of the Monster starts at issue #34, is there not a paperback collection of the previous 33 issues? And if so, what is it called? And if not, is the only way to get them individualy or....?

I think I read that the previous 33 issues were just called Hulk or something and a new creative team took over at 34, I could am most likely am wrong though.

My final question is: do the previous 33 issues even contain plot that would benefit someone starting at the 34th? Im just wondering why they chose to start the paperback volumes at #34 instead of starting from the beginning.

Man it's comics roll with the punches.

#34 is as good a place as any to start collecting.

any #1 issue comic would probably be expensive
Not really. I think Corp was referring to a TPB collecting #1 anyway though.

Wait isnt that the start of Bruce Jones run. DANGER! DANGER!

Yes avoind the Bruce Jones run - it was not that good imho

Find out the issue where writer Bruce Jones ended his craptacular run and go from there.

Edit: His run ended on issue #66, so start with #67.

Did the new writer start a brand new storyline?

yes, I belive it was Peter David coming back for a six issue arc where everything that happened in Jones' run, was retconned away. Which means that buying Jones' run would have been a waste of time because it didn't really happen. I forget what it was called, but it was pretty good.

Tempest Fugit I believe the arc was called.

You have to love those storylines.

"Well Hulk, you saved the world and finally have your temper under control and everyone loves you. Your wife is alive again and everything is good. Oh wait... Never mind RETCON!!!!" "Sorry Hulk, eveythings back to the way it was before. It was all just a dream. *does the dream thing from Waynes world* "Doodloo, doodloo, doodloo...

LOL. Ok then, I guess I'll start with the new writer.

yeah, you really want to avoid Bruce Jones' run...

If you can find it, get Giant Size Hulk #1 which just came out the other week, it reprints one of the best Hulk stories of all time, Hulk: The End

Did you mean it ended on #76? Marvel lists #77 starting with the new writer.
