Hurray! Another Wolverine ongoing announced!!!

I also think that Wolverine needs to leave the Avengers. His being on the Avengers and X-Men makes no sense at all. The Avengers are based in New York City while the X-Men are based across the other side of the country in San Fransisco. How does he make it on every one of their adventures? I mean they show Flash struggling on being in two teams at once in Justice League Elite, yet Wolverine is conveniently able to do this? Also the X-Men are trying to be a somewhat legitimate team in the eyes of the public and government and Wolverine being on the illegal Avengers team goes against that.

His boob-clone and bastard son could take up some of his slack...

At least hippie_hunter and chamber-music liked my comment.

Ye too bad he can't just sit infront of his computer and post 13,000+ messages to a website that would be a great tv show, Wolverine vs The Internet, you know "Dread" if that is your real name, you are The Wolverine of this board, your post are everywhere for one, I mean don't you have anything else going on in your life, like a wife, girlfriend, boyfriend, family, I'm sure you have a job, any other hobbies aside from comics. Here take me for example, I love comics and have for nearly 20 years, but I have time to get married, have two kids, I'm a Network-admin for a major worldwide corp. I mean come on guy, let's try cutting down to 1 or 2 postings a week, get out live life, have fun. Today, I want you to go to a new years party, meet a girl or a guy and get laid.

So, did I steal your wife in a past life or something and that's earned your ire? Because if so, uh, then I'm sorry?

For a poster who has been part of the board for over 6 years, 13-14k posts are nothing. Plenty of people have double and have been around for half that time. I just only post in comic related topics.

To recap: Wolverine's current ongoings are WOLVERINE, WOLVERINE: ORIGINS, and WOLVERINE: FIRST CLASS (which makes no sense as a title; it may as well be called YOUNG SHADOWCAT & WOLVERINE). He also is a regular cast member in NEW AVENGERS, X-FORCE, ASTONISHING X-MEN and usually UNCANNY X-MEN. Not counting ULTIMATE X-MEN, of course. There also is almost always an additional Wolverine mini-series or one-shot that comes out every month (or enough to add more Wolverine comics about 7-10 months out of a year) that may as well be condensed into another ongoing series.

Logically speaking, Millar's "Old Man Logan" should be a mini, basically call it WOLVERINE: THE END ONLY LESS SUCK MAYBE, and Aaron's run would be on Wolverine. But Marvel obviously wanted to keep a big name on WOLVERINE to keep sales high, and so far it has worked on that level.

So, now we have WOLVERINE: WEAPON X. I am curious if Weapon X is again coming back into the forefront or the title NEW WOLVERINE sounded too lame. Wolverine should seriously go the ASM route; rotating creative teams on a weekly/semi-weekly book. One could even argue the actual X-Books could be condensed in that way (is there really a need for 3-4 titles featuring the exact same team), but given that ASM's sales are averaging a mediocre 65k sales without majorly hyped arcs like "Anti-Venom", I doubt the model will be repeated.

Honestly, Marvel is saturating the market. In the face of "rising paper costs" and higher priced comics, Marvel should be cutting back, not expanding. Some months, Marvel has over 150 comics within the Top 300 shipped in a month. That's entirely too many. There is little reason for a slew of books to exist. Sadly, Wolverine still apparently sells, and one could imagine companies starting to "play safe" in the rough times by having more series about top selling characters.

Iron Man was ramped up the past year or two since CIVIL WAR. But his old title is shifting to WAR MACHINE, a spin-off, while Stark stays on INVINCIBLE IRON MAN and MIGHTY AVENGERS, not counting other guest stints. Spider-Man of course has his AMAZING SPIDER-MAN that ships 3 issues a month (which condensed 3 ongoing titles into one), as well as random one-shot's and mini's alongside appearing in NEW AVENGERS. Plus, Norman Osborn is one of his enemies so I can imagine Spidey having more play in DARK REIGN, at least logically. Like I stated originally, while Iron Man has given Logan some run for his money as Marvel's overexposed king, Wolverine's still the heavyweight champ, and has been for over 15 years.

Hell, I remember the days when people would complain that MARVEL COMICS PRESENTS was an "unofficial" second Wolverine ongoing, since his stories were usually the well hyped lead stories (in addition to WOLVERINE and UNCANNY X-MEN where he starred). Man, those were the days. ONLY three titles? Psshaw.

Ironically, I used to be the most hardcore Wolverine fanboy you ever saw, least from junior high and high school. But it was exactly this sort of overexposure to him that kind of turned me off, made him "get old" to me and led me to expand my horizons to other X-Men, and other characters. The more overpowered and overexposed he got, the least interested in him I became. It is a bit of a shame. A poster from WIZARDWORLD forums in 2000 or so had the best take on him that I still quote: "I used to love Wolverine, he was such a great character. Then he became popular and it ruined him."

That's right! Wolverine even has two clones, basically! X-23, the literal clone from X-MEN EVOLUTION, has been in the canon since about 2003-2004. I didn't know anyone who liked her from the cartoon and I barely know anyone who likes her now.

And WOLVERINE: ORIGINS gave us Daken, the generic evil son with weird claw designs and a trying-too-hard mohawk sort of hairstyle. He's like X-23, only MORE generic! Way to go, uh, Way!

Both are far worse than Ben Reilly was as a character. There, I said it. And I hated Reilly. :p

who's this wolverine guy? I never heard of him.

As much overexposure as it might be, Jason Aaron does make this worth reading.

It's not going to be about a return of Weapon X, judging from Aaron's comments - though Maverick will be a supporting character. Like WOLVERINE: FIRST CLASS there's no really good reason for the book having that title.

I disagree, I don't think WOLVERINE should ship 3-times-a-month for a variety of reasons - I don't trust the current editorial at Marvel in regards to Wolverine, books with such a distinct difference between them as W: FIRST CLASS and W: ORIGINS couldn't be folded into the same book effectively. What I'd prefer would be the return of Greg Rucka/Darick Robertson or Stuart Moore/C.P. Smith to the title. Though rumour has it WOLVERINE will be becoming a team book featuring Fantastic Force.

I do wish the X-books would take the ASM route though. I think Millar was supposed to do something like this before he decided to do FANTASTIC FOUR instead.

Don't forget Albert - Wolvie's malfunctioning android double! Or do...that's probably the better idea.

Albert and Elsie Dee haven't shown up in a good decade or more, have they? I'm pretty sure Marvel's forgotten them, too.

And let's not mention how many "guy with claws" characters have been created since Logan got popular. :p

Boob-clone is on X-Force with him

Yeah I know. They should take him off that team.

and bastard son is joining the Avengers.

Didn't know that. Guess they're gonna need to come up with a couple more clones and/or bastards for my plan to work...

I dunno, it would kinda seem odd that Wolverine is not on the team considering its premise of being Cyclops' black-op assassination squad.

If anything, they should take X-23 off the team based on what Wolverine told her in X-Force #1.

Didn't know that. Guess they're gonna need to come up with a couple more clones and/or bastards for my plan to work...
There's another bastard son named Erista with some chick from the Savage Land and an adopted daughter as well.

And don't forget in alternate universes he has a few bastard children here and there :o

I like X-23, and so does a friend of mine. I ignore the NYX continuity, though.

I've only read a few issues with her, but she's always felt pretty one-note to me. She's Wolverine, only younger, angstier, and with boobs.

She's a lot more robot-like than Logan. At least in the X-Force series.

Oh yeah, they're never coming back.

I hope/think Aaron is going to move away from the 'guy/gal with claws' crap that has been seemingly mandatory for years. By the by, worst ever example of that cliché was in the SIX HOURS mini by Bruce Jones.

There's another bastard son named Erista with some chick from the Savage Land and an adopted daughter as well.
You know that damn child was never given a name until an Official Marvel Handbook? That's really one of those things that shouldn't annoy me but does.

Haha, really?
Just what I'm told. A few comments by John Barber have inspired it:

John Barber: I know some people might look at this and throw their hands up at the amount of Wolverine books…well, all I can say is, wait until you see what's going to happen in WOLVERINE after 'Old Man Logan' ends…"

Any hints as to what will happen with the regular “Wolverine” title after “OML” wraps? John Barber made it sound as though the book might become something else entirely.
John Barber: Did I make it sound like that? Huh.

Where'd that interview with John Barber come from?

Thanks, Jack.

OK, well, Barber has me sold on the new Wolvie ongoing. He seems to have a pretty good handle on the character, as editor, so I'm game.

I guess I'll just read that and pretend some of the other ones don't exist.

Well, if you're inclined to read any Wolverine series, one with Aaron and Garney on it would be a pretty safe bet. They're both top-shelf creators.
She's a lot more robot-like than Logan. At least in the X-Force series.
That's all part of the angst. She's emotionally disconnected because she's Wolverine as a teenager with issues. Also, less testosterone, so less of the ol' rage.

I loved the "Get Mystique" arc(except for the cop-out and unbelievable ending) but I'll be passing on this title

Oh, come on, you expected anything other than a cop-out ending? They're not gonna have Wolverine kill off one of the most enduring and well known X-villains. :o
