Normally I dont care for Marvel's What If? type stuff, but X-Men Forever intrigues me...

Any Spidey stuff yet? Dan Slott told me last week there were some cool announcements coming out at the con...

- How much is the Dark Reign related to the Bush Administration? Quesada: Dark Reign has been planned for quite awhile.

So I am not the only one who noted the poor timing of DARK REIGN.

Suddenly I am not hearing how Marvel is "tapping the pulse of society" with an event. :p

From the Dark Reign panel, there were...

some things that excite me:
Newsarama said:
- A fan said he's a huge fan of Captain Britain and the MI: 13. Cornell said: "New storyline: Dr. Doom on the Moon with Dracula. Dr. Doom's not taking second fiddle to anyone in my series."

- Will Captain America tie into Dark Reign? Brevoort: You'll see Avengers characters hanging out sometimes with Cap, but Ed Brubaker will be doing what he's been doing.

- What's next for the Initiative? Will Gargoyle stay around? Gage: Gargoyle retired. The next story is Initiative Disassembled, and that's what it is. Norman Osborn will be changing things in the Initiative in a big way. And the New Warriors are coming back.

- How long until we get into the Ebony Blade in Captain Britain and the MI: 13? Cornell: You'll see the Black Knight get the Ebony Blade back in the next issue.

- Is Dark Reign influenced by Acts of Vengeance? Bendis: It's not consciously linked to it. Brevoort: Acts of Vengeance collection this year.

- What's up with Scarlet Witch? Slott: You're going to find out what's up with the Scarlet Witch by Issue #23.

some things that terrify me:
Newsarama said:
- Will Thor ever appear in Dark Reign? Brevoort: Yes.

- Do you worry you're making things too gray? Quesada: No, at the end of the day, we're just trying to tell good stories. Marvel characters have always been gray. There's lot of that stuff.

and one thing that manages to do both:
Newsarama said:
- Is Steven Strange done? Bendis: No, you'll be very happy because Steven gets a lot of face time, and we'll take a tour of Marvel's magical universe and see who's worthy of being Sorcerer Supreme.

We're surprised that an EIC who considers smoking more evil than drinking, gambling, murdering, raping, and adultery simply because it personally effected him has trouble identifying morality in Marvel characters? ;)

I'm just worried that they're considering stuff like Dark Reign "gray." Norman Osborn in charge of a large chunk of the US government is f*** blacker than night, dude.

I think that comment was more directed at our heroes, but for the most part, you're right.

Our heroes are pretty f***ed up at this point, too. There's a difference between having feet of clay and, say, swearing to murder an entire species because they messed with your wife.

Indeed. But, that sort of problem has been happening at Marvel for a while. Heroes had to act like villains for CW, and now they are trying to imitate that with Osborn.

I do like how Osborn in a way is uniting heroes against him, even if it makes no sense that he is in that position. Again, it is akin to Ted Bundy becoming Secretary of State because he shot a terrorist on TV.

Yeah, I'm wondering where the conservative groups and soccer moms that decry violence in all forms of media are in Dark Reign. Surely they wouldn't be endorsing Norman for splattering a woman's brains all over national TV for their kids to see.

Seriously, though, has there been any popular opposition to the ex-f***ing-Green Goblin being in charge of the entire nation's superhumans in any comics so far? Joe Q and Bendis are all about how Marvel is grounded in the real world; well, in the real world someone out there would look at this situation and go, "Wait... this might end badly..."

Most definitely.

Joe Q and Bendis simply believe that "bleakness" and perpetual grimness is "realism". I honestly doubt they know any alternative.

Well, i could be wrong but i feel like all this darkness and bleakness is leading up to a big moment where the heroes finally unite and triumph together. Dark Reign may be the story where that happens, everybody gets their s*** together and kicks the Dark Avengers' asses. I could be wrong though, maybe things will only get darker after Dark Reign. lol

I could see that coinciding with Steve Rogers' return for an event that would make me cream my jeans.

It'll probably never happen, though.

I am betting on darker.

Plus, such an ending would imply an event for mainstream Earth Marvel that actually has an ending, which doesn't really happen. The ending is always "HAHA SUCKA THAT WAS JUST THE PRELUDE FOR ________"

It's possible that Marvel could prove me wrong after 5 years. I just doubt it. ;)

Space is where it is at! Morality exists! Endings happen! Cool characters get cooler!

I actually read that as : Claremont on X-Men. Forever. If the headline would have been Exiles instead of X-Men, I may have died on the spot of depression. Does this mean that he's done ruining that title yet?

Yeah, they're getting a mini by Jeff Parker and Salvador Espin soon.

I'd love for Joss Whedon to come back and do something X-related, but I doubt thats in the cards any time soon. But that would be my dream announcement.

He's too busy waiting for Dollhouse to get canceled.

:csad:

I know its a possibility, but do you have to say it out loud?! Someone from Fox may hear you...

They already did. Friday night, my friend. Friday night.

I still dont think that will make any difference.

On another note, I'd also love to see Joss write Spidey.

Man, remember the days when it was cool to stay home friday nite and there would be a bunch of great shows on prime time tv? God i miss TGIF.:yay:

They should give Joss an alternate universe married Spidey series. He'd write the hell out of Mary Jane.
