These days action blockbusters in the summer are largely based in the sci/fi, fantasy or comic book worlds, the odd ones that aren't tend too be sequels to older franchises started way back (Exception, the Bourne movies)

Back in the 90's though the high concept action thriller was god, some call these movies "Die Hard on/in a ______" :D I am in the process of re-watching some of these and I still love em! anyone else a fan of this period ?

Some of my favourites:

The 70's and 90's are my favorite movie era's. The 70's had great movies where they acted well ( Godfather) and the 90's had movies with proper action.
While i hate the 80's in general , i've warmed up to certain flicks. I just watch them in a "so-dumb-that-it's-cool-in-a-McBain-kinda-way" mindset.
Commando , the Jean Claude Van Damme movies.

However the 90's were epic.

Yeah, this genre is what I still think of when I hear the term "action movie." Never saw Air Force One but all of the others are favorites of mine. Another one to add to the list:

Under Siege (the only Steven Segal movie I've ever enjoyed).

If you think about it, the 70s created modern day filmmaking so that's why I love that decade.

I love the 80s mostly for the comedies. Action-wise, I love Commando..for what it was.

i'll contribute these 4 fine pieces of 90's action goodness...

^^The Mask of Zorro is one of my favorite action/adventure movies. For me, it ranks up there with some of the classic adventure action movies, such as

The Indiana Jones movies,
first Mummy
first Pirates of the Caribbean

MOZ and these films have that great old school action feel with some modern touches. Too many of the sequels to these movies left much to be desired. :(

they have a swashbuckler/adventure aspect that always helps make action films more classic. they don't feel like mission or agenda based films.

Huh? You didn't like Die Hard or the Lethal Weapon films? Predator?

The Rock. Haven't seen the film in a long time. Connery was great.

"The winners go home and f**k the cheerleaders." Or something like that.

prom queen ;) and Carla WAS the prom queen.

I could of sworn it was cheerleaders. Well I haven't seen the film in a long time so I'll take you word for it. And was Carla Cage's gf in the film?

My favourite 90s Action/Thrillers would have to be
Falling Down
GoldenEye
In The Line Of Fire
Leon

Can't believe no one's mentioned Face/Off. A rare breed indeed...

Oh yeah, Under Siege was one of the first R's i snuck into, happy times. :D It was such a tightly put together little action flick, it was directed by Andrew Davis who also did the Fugitive, then he fell off.

Pure, unashamed cheesy fun! :applaud

I never get tired of this, one of my all time fav films, the set pieces are still amazing.

The `90s gave us some great action movies, but the `80s were better. The highlight of action movies in the `90s was basically Terminator 2.

Lot of my faves already mentioned, but couple still missing:

Point Break
Rapid Fire

Stallone and Bullock's characters were annoying as f*** but Wesley Snipes'
Simon Phoenix more than made up for it.
