I can't find Batman:The Man Who Laughs anywhere!

Gotham by Gaslight is fantastic. Love it. The sequel is pretty mediocre though especially compared to Gaslight.

Fun fact; Gotham by Gaslight was the first DC elseworld story.

Only retrospectively. The Elseworld imprint was not created until afterwards.

Fun fact; Death of Superman, John Byrne's Man of Steel and JLA: New World Order have also been reprinted.:cmad:

You should have! Victorian style Batman investigating the Jack the Ripper murders, and it has art by Mike Mignola! What more could you want?

a competent story that doesnt use the name jack the ripper as a cheap gimmick.

Well it doesn't. The story plays out nicely. It's the first and the best Elseworlds evah..!

Yet you refuse to make a competent post.

If anything, the Batman in the past bit would be the cheap gimmick.

GbG is still a great read. Nice one zer00.

The whole thing was a cheap gimmick. Batman as a vampire and Superman as a commie are cheap gimmicks. The whole concept of Elseworlds is "In Elseworlds, heroes are taken from their usual settings and put into strange times and places - some that have existed or might've existed, and others that can't, couldn't or shouldn't exist. That way we make more money."

Which would you prefer, artists and writers given unusual creative freedom to craft something new and different, or more of the usual stuff printed in six comics a month?

Red Rain is a fantastic piece of work, and so is Red Son. Sure, they're build around a central gimmick, but so is King Kong.
