I found an iPod!!

how exactly is it not?
well obviously if I took something right off them then yes. If I saw them drop something and took it anyway then yes. If no one is around and i see something and dont know who it belongs to then NO.

So if you murder someone and no one saw, then you didn't commit murder.

^ If you find a dead body laying on the ground, does that make you a murderer?

Today he keeps an ipod he found on the street, tomorrow he joins al-qaeda.

I believe under the letter of the law, technically, it is considered theft.

However, I believe you should be careful with your **** and if you lose it/drop it, this is the consequence. If I had saved up for months to buy an Ipod, you'd bet I'd have a death grip on that that thing where ever I went.

Also, people really shouldn't really try to substitute the stolen item with other objects. Than you start getting into degrees of morality and that's always a debatable issue as everyone has their own personal code of ethics. A dog with sentimental value or a wallet with private and important information is not equivalent to an Ipod. Yes, in the court of law theft is theft no matter what the item is, however this is the court of public opinion.

That being said, if you really did want to return it I wouldn't bother with a newspaper ad. You'd be better off just posting a few letters around the area you found it. They'd most likely be retracing their steps and come across that area.

An ipod can't have sentimental value? What if it was a gift from someone important to the person?

No, but if you take said body and start shoving music files in its orifices, I'm sure you can be arrested for something.

No, you're right, everything and anything can carry a certain amount of sentimental value. I guess I meant a dog has emotional attachment beyond that of an inanimate object.

What of you were walking down the street, and found a BMW set of car keys, and right infront of it was a BMW? No one was around, but obviously the car keys belong to the car. Do you just take the car, or do you hand the keys over to the police?

I mean with your logic if no one is around, so it's not stealing, right?

30 GB iPods. :o

Unless it's a Touch.

And I'd try and find the owner of the iPod, maybe it's easier because I have 2 already.

Because we all know that a car is simply an ipod with wheels

I wonder if it was "engraved" on the back if anyone would bother trying to find the owner.

So, it's ok to take someone else's property as long as it's small, right?

But it is understandable that if you don't hold onto your stuff, someone else will pick it up.

Doesn't make it necessarily right especially if he made no attempts to look for the owner.

Me and a friend found a XBox360 game in a store someone left, and we could have kept it but we gave it to the worker of the store, and then I noticed someone kinda looking around and deduced it was him who lost it and told him his game was with the clerk.

So when he finds an ipod in the street, he's supposed to do what...yell out "Everybody I found an ipod. If someone has lost their ipod while going to work, please come back here to get it so we can both be late for work"?

He should find out whether it's registered.

And if it's not, then what
Take it to the Police, and if it's not claimed in 30 days, it's his. But, at least then he tried.

When my brother worked for the Post Office, he was traveling behind a pick up truck. At a Stop Light, the a couple of tool boxes fell out of the back of it. He immediately took it to the Police Station, and if anyone claims to have lost these tools, they can identify it, and keep it.

My brother went back to check, and no one showed up for 90 days. He got to keep it. He later found out that it was worth over $3000. But, at least he tried to return it.

Yes, it's great that he found an ipod. But, what makes him a respectable human being with concern for his fellow man, is integrity, he could try to find the owner, and if it's not claimed, then he can keep it. It takes little effort at all.

"respectable human being with concern for his fellow man" in regard to keeping a lousy ipod?

:lmao:

I needed that laugh, thanks

That "lousy ipod" is someone's property that they spent a lot of money on.
