If DC do the unthinkable and they actually re-cast Jared Leto as The Joker for this solo film franchise, then who would make a great Joker?

Off the top of my head the choices I would go with for a new Joker should Leto ever be replaced:

10- Michael Pitt
9- Ryan Gosling
8- Adrien Brody
7- Sharlto Copley
6- Michael C Hall
5- Crispin Glover
4- Iwan Rheon
3- Bill Skarsgard
2- Jake Gyllenhaal
1- Ben Foster

That would be my list of actors who I could see as Joker should they re-cast with Ben Foster being my #1 pick

Ben Foster
Sam Rockwell
Walton Goggins (before anybody says it, I don't care that he's already in a Marvel movie)

Ben Foster definitely is my pick...I would have said Willem Dafoe if he weren't cast as Vulko in Aquaman but he was and Crispin Glover if anything is probably too old for the role especially with Margot playing Harley...so you would obviously want someone age appropriate and who better than Ben Foster

Ben Foster
Sam Rockwell
Walton Goggins (before anybody says it, I don't care that he's already in a Marvel movie)

Sam Rockwell you say?

I like that!

Actually another outside the box choice would be Joaquin Phoenix as Joker...think about how outside the box Heath Ledger was when he was cast as Joker

He pulled off perhaps the greatest Joker of all time all be it in a bittersweet performance well because he died but if Ledger had lived I honestly think that he would have been in Suicide Squad reprising his role

But now I would say Joaquin Phoenix simply because the man could act and not to mention he can play crazy sociopathic type characters but also he can disappear into a role

Sam Rockwell you say?

I like that!
Rockwell was a popular choice back in the pre-TDK days. And Walton Goggins is basically a deadringer for the Alex Ross Joker.

Foster, Rockwell, or Goggins would absolutely crush it. I'd be beside myself with any of them in the role.

Bill Skarsgard he is another one I mean given his performance as Pennywise in IT how could you not see him as Joker? I mean did you see how he disappeared completely into the role of Pennywise he was downright horrifying and I think his Joker would not only be horrifying but funny too all at the same time...he would play Joker the way it is meant to

Jake Gyllenhaal would be a pretty seamless upgrade IMO.

And without considering continuity, I also would like to see Adam Driver.

Another outside the box pick for Joker well for me would be James Franco or even his brother Dave Franco...either one of them as Joker would be a hoot but I would go more James than anything

Walton Goggins
Giovanni Ribisi
Jake Gyllenhall
Evan Peters
Christian Bale
Alan Tudyk
Johnathan Tucker
Sam Rockwell
Edward Norton
Micheal Keaton
Paul Bettany
Jude Law
Oscar Isaac
Joseph Gordon Levitt
Hugh Laurie
Glenn Howerton
Casey Affleck
Chris Pine
Shia Labeouf
Jeff Golblum
Johnny Depp
James McAvoy
Joe Anderson
Adam Scott
Rain Wilson
Sacha Baron Cohen
Micheal C. Hall

Out of this list I would go with Gyllenhaal, Ribisi, Rockwell, McAvoy and Casey Affleck Ben's own brother as The Joker

Give the edge to McAvoy...and why? He pretty much played a character similar to The Joker in Split but also because I think he would be able to nail the character down to a tee which is what Leto failed to do

MCAvoy would own this role and I've been saying it for time. I know its unlikely to happen but I'd be thrilled if he got the role.

Me too McAvoy would kill it as Joker however since he is in the MCU as Xavier I doubt he gets cast...so I would go with Ben Foster if only because Goggins too is also in the MCU now

10- Michael Pitt

P.S. There's a thread already discussing this as well as a general reboot casting thread ( which idk why people don't just stick to the topic of recastings in general on THAT particular thread alone instead of making multiple, seemingly endless threads of "Something-something- casting thread " when they could just use the one )

Foster and Rockwell where also in Marvel movies. :shr:

To be fair, Iron Man 2 is that forgettable. :funny:

And we are ten years removed from X-Men: The Last Stand, where Foster played a minor role. I think we'd be OK.

Foster does look close enough to the Leto vers of the character.
Rockwell, I would much rather see him as a Lantern.

I'd go for Toby Kebbell. An immense talent saddled with some really bad films. But when he shines, he delivers in spades.

His 'Koba' was a phenomenal antagonist, and I'm sure his relationship with Reeves is still solid.

Also I've a feeling his unique features would make for an interesting combination with the Joker makeup. Already has the mouth/grin for it too.

He's been cast so much as a CG character that he name dropped Clayface in his Kong interview. I'd say it'd be more poetic for him to play Grodd.

Walton Goggins would be such a great pick

been on board with him for a while now

Goggins for Joker or Carnage.

Casey Affleck would have made a good Nolan Riddler. He would be too distracting in any role in a Ben Affleck universe.

Rockwell would be incredible as an older Joker or Riddler.

Ben Foster, Joaquin Phoenix are great choices (Joaquin has been my pick for a while). I prefer Gyllenhaal as Batman but I'd be down with him as Joker if he lost some weight like his Lou Bloom character.

Absolutely no to McAvoy and Skarsgaard, and anyone else listed.

Joker is one of the easiest roles to cast imo because you have more freedom than with any other character.
Therefore you can go with pretty much anybody.
The key is having a good writing etc...that is what Suicide Squad sadly didnt deliver for Leto.

Im all for giving him another chance.
With a better script and a bit bleach that gets rid of the tattoos, he could be a fantastic Joker.

It really doesn't make one iota of difference if the actor has been In a marvel film.

Really want to see a batman beyond and mark hamill cast.

Its a tragedy he never got a live action film.
