The Amazing Spider-Man 2 IGN: "We've Seen 33 Minutes of the ASM 2"

Yeah, pretty much. Only cracked.com gave it a negative, saying that most of the issues with TASM1 are still present. I kind of just rolled my eyes at that one. How credible is that site anyway?

But otherwise everything else is positive. The general "complaints" are some awkward tonal shifts, ADD editing for action scenes, and a few others I can't remember. But nothing major. The most positive review came from IGN, and the reporter said that every single thing in those 33 minutes was perfect.

Dude, IGN, that's awesome. Great to hear.

So these "tonal" shifts, meaning within those first 30 minutes? They probably mean how each sequence comes after another. Richard Parker danger (serious, drama, action-y) -> Truck chase (fun, light hearted, action, comedic) -> Graduation (toned down, serious [Gwen speech and Peter/Gwen drama]), etc...

I think they were specifically referring to the fact that:

The plane crash transitions into the truck chase sequence, which is supposed to be light hearted and fun. Then they mention how one moment Peter is having a romantic conversation with Gwen, and then it transitions to Spider-Man fighting Electro and throwing out puns.

That's not really a concern for me.

Ohh. That conversation that they have by the tree. Dude, but that's Spider-Man. In TSSM, comics, he's always doing one thing, most of the time as Peter Parker, whether it's stuff with the Bugle, with Aunt May, with Gwen/MJ, and when shiz hits the fan, he has to turn into Spidey, and that includes quips. Obviously it didn't work for them...

Absolutely. It's part of the whole Spider-Man mythos. I think it's something that will sit right with us Spider-Man fans. :)

I just remembered one other thing that was "negative."

If I can recall correctly, one complaint is that Peter reveals that he has been watching Gwen to protect her, and it made him seem like a stalker. (when they are talking by the tree). Otherwise there really isn't much to be worried about in terms of Peter/Gwen. This is the element of the movie that I am most confident about.

BTW I love your avatar, Nicko!!!

So thats what the critics who don't know the character will probably may or may not subtract from

Huh. Well you can always find a reason to "make fun of" or label someone "stalker-ish" or "obsessed" in a romance. Love makes you crazy haha.

Thanks btw. Made by Kane of course. I love how in that shot, you can see more detail in GG's armor. There's a lot going on resulting in a busy design. I like.

It could sound "stalker-ish" out of context, but we know Spider-Man is a good guy and he is only trying to keep Gwen safe.

Yeah exactly. But I'm guessing that by tonal shifts they're coming at it from a filmmaking perspective and not necessarily from the eyes of a Spidey fan. We, as Spider-man fans, are used to that type of shuffling without the neat, tidy or slow transition; whether it be from comics or TSSM or whatever. However, for someone not used to that type of sharp tonal shift it can probably seem a bit awkward or even jarring.

There's also the possibility that what they saw was more of a montage than really the first 15 minutes and then other scenes.

Yes. Understood.

Hmm I'm kinda leaning on that they saw the real first half hour.

No, these are the scenes that were shown:

1. Opening plane sequence
2. Truck Chase
3. Peter and Gwen talking by the bridge
4. Harry and Electro in Ravencroft

Ah..true. I thought they showed Peter and Gwen talking by that tree? Guess I'm wrong.

But the first two are connected...

Oh wait... they WERE talking by the tree. My bad lol. And yeah, the first two are connected, but I think #3 and #4 are isolated events/scenes in the film. :)

Gotcha. All good.

I do know that them at Chinatown/Dim Sum happens after
graduation I think. I also think that's where they break up. I'm so confused...I don't know where the time jump is. The one year one.

I guess it's not necessarily a bad thing. I'd rather be confused than walk in knowing exactly what is supposed to happen.

I think we've all seen 33 minutes of ASM 2 if you add up all the footage from trailers and features.

It was actually cravedonline.com if anyone wants to read it.

Given how much marketing there's been, I'm pretty sure we've ALL seen 33 minutes of ASM 2. :rimshot:

Dang, pr0xy. Now I look unoriginal.

Shoulda checked the comments.

Yeah it's cool that IGN liked..... But it's still IGN and I STILL hate them :/ And Destructoid. And Gamespot. And Escapist..... And most review sites that chose to breath.

Apparently in the Times Square sequence there is a very cool
utilization of the Spider-sense. As well as showing how Electro sees the world- he can see electricity everywhere, etc. Also sounds like the 3d is very good.
The action scenes in this movie look sooooo good.
