So, I've been meaning to pick up a different language, and German is the one that's been shooting to me. Sure I could brush up on my French [took 3 years in high school, but meh], or Spanish would be useful, but truthfully, not interesting. German just kinda strikes to me. I dunno why. I used to be pretty fluent with ASL, as well, but I haven't used it in almost seven years.

So, if you speak [or sign] more than one, let us know.*

And in the meantime, Disney songs in German.

Everything sounds mean in German.

I've taken 9 years of Spanish now. I haven't learned anything the last 4 and only forget everything I learned before. I took a year of Latin freshman year of HS and 1 semester of Italian last year. I've also been learning the Russian alphabet on my own since I'm a history major and most interested in Imperial Russia.

I'm doing the Rosetta Stone thing for Spanish, and it turns out that taking it for about 6 years in school has helped. I'm not fluent yet, but I can survive in a Spanish speaking country for a while. After Spanish I'm thinking taking French or Hausa. I want to learn Hausa so I could speak to my two bodyguard/tribal concubines.:o

I'd love to become fluent in another language. I think German would be very interesting...but spanish or french are more functional.

Not if you live in China.

You have a very good point man. :oldrazz:

i want to learn Tagalog. i know a couple of words, i wonder if there's a rosetta stone for that.

i was in spanish honor society in high school but i can read it better than i can speak it or understand it.

i'm pretty fluent in redneck and body language as well :rimshot:

I tried learning Spanish in high school , but for the life of me I couldn't pick it up. I'm going to take a French class sometime in the future.

I know French although I hate speaking it. It makes me so self-conscious. And although I don't speak it, I understand Igbo.

I speak English and French and understand Farsi.

My fiancé however speaks Dutch, English, German, French and Spanish as well as a smudgeon of Italian.

I can speak English and French (although I need to use it more). My daughter knows English, French and Spanish.

You understand Igbo? Please tell me more.:yay:

I grew up in 8 different countries and speak a couple languages pretty well and can get by in another couple. English of course is my first language, Hindu (because of my family's Indian), Japanese (because of martial arts and an 8 month stint in Japan), Korean (also because of marital arts), Spanish (because I'm a new Yorker), Italian (from my boss and his family, French (from my wife and her side of the family).

I really have to hand it to you guys that know MULTIPLE languages. That's incredible.

I'm jealous.

It's because we're American Marx. It's not as ingrained into us to speak multiple languages like it is in other countries. It seems my foreign friends all speak more than one language. Hopefully this Rosetta Stone thing works. I plan on finishing Spanish, learning Hausa, and probably something else like French or Mandarin.

There's a Part 1 and Part 2.

Erzette got it for Christmas over a year ago.

We really need to start using it.

I'm fluent in Icelandic(native language) & English and I can get by in Danish and German. Could use a bit of revision in the latter two languages though. I spent a week in Austria last year and it's amazing how quickly you start to pick it up again after not having used the language in a long time.

How old are all of you who know multiple languages? I'm taking Italian now and I want to learn Spanish too. I'm 20 now and have never really had any experience with other languages, but taking Italian has made me want to learn them all.

I studied spanish in high school and let me tell you.....

It wasnt until I reached about 23 that I actually learned Spanish lol

I live in Spain now so obviously I had to learn the language, not quite bilingual yet but I can get by comfortably right now.

To learn another language I would highly suggest Michel Thomas, his methods are awesome and he really breaks down the language so you're able to know spanish rather than just knowing phrases and words.

I'm 29, but I lived in 8 countries by the time I was 16 so that helps. My dad's a scientist and my mother an economist so there's lots of traveling there.

I can understand Hebrew, and I know a bit of Spanish.

I speak a smidgen of German but not nearly as much as I'd like to.

I've bought audio tapes and books and everything but I keep backsliding in it.
