I'm confused-why are at least two members of Omega Flight Americans?

I refer of course to John Walker( the USAgent) and Julia Carpenter( Arachne).
According to Marvel Showcase, Julia is apparently going to officially become a Canadian( and or renounce her American citizenship- why may be no biggie for her but I can scarcely imagine the USAgent doing the same); is this becuase she refuses to accept the SHRA?

And there's Beta Ray Bill who of course is an alien but how the(expletive deleted) does he fit in with Omega Flight- the old Alpha Flight had at least one immortal -Snowbird( just as the Defenders and the Winter Guard each had at least one- the Valkyrie and Perun respectively). Is Canada so deficient in native superhumans that it has to accept not just expatriate Americans but even aliens?

I think US Agent is supposed to be a liason from the American government. Sort of a way of saying "I'm terribly sorry about killing your beloved national heroes. Here, have one of ours."

I don't see what the big deal is. The X-Men have had a Canadian, a Russian, a German, and loads of other expatriates for years. Same with the Avengers at various points in their history. Now it's Canada's turn. The majority of the team is still Canadian, and I think Michael Pointer has been magically transformed into a Canadian just for Omega Flight.

As I explained to one of my Canadian Comic Junkie friends.

"I'm really sorry Alpha Flight isn't as cool as it could be. Much like Excalibur. Someday, you'll get an awesome superhero team of Canadian superheroes by Canadian writers whom will depict it defeating terrorist organizations/alien invasions and the lot like everyone else."

First off I'm most likely the biggest Alpha Flight fan on this board, and to me it's not a big deal. Alpha Flight has always had members from around the world, China, Japan, England, Paradise (Northern Gods Home), Realm of the Beasts (Tanaraq-Sasquatch), Atlantis/alien, etc. Also Beta Ray Bill's human form Simon Walters has been revealed to have connections to Canada revealed in an interview after Stormbreaker but was cut out for time-constraints. Also rumor is, it was Talisman the Spirit-Binder who brought Bill back in Stormbreaker.

Oddly, your right

Plus, you know, Canadians suck. :o

Hey jerk we gave you Celion Dion and Howie Mandell...*thinks about it* Damn it! We do suck :(

Celine Dion is something I would never wish on any country. Can't we just agree that she must have come from the deepest pit of Hell and absolve the Canadians of her, at least? They did give us the Kids in the Hall. :(

..and John Candy, he was awesome :csad:

Doubt it to part one, because...I'm going with "Prove me wrong, sucka". J/k

Anyways. I actually LIKE diverse teams. If they had a French superhero team, I'd actually feel kind of lame that we could only have French people. Is Canada so backwoodsy that it shouldn't be capable of attracting others? Or is it so superior that no other hero will do?

And to the Canadians and sucking. Oui oui. French Canadians are French in name only. They're not French!!! Or else every freaking French speaking American is French too because they might have had some ancestor down the line who may have been French. :cmad: *Is one of her BIGGEST pet peeves*

I guess I am a sucka as not sure what part I have to prove :csad:

Actually, France is getting an all French superhero team. Every country is going to have their own team and France was one of the teams they revealed in some preview images. Been a few months since I seen it, but I'll try to find the scans...I'm lazy though. Well even in the series in the past, they had Sunfire (Japan), Sasquatch-Tanaraq (Realm of Beasts), Snowbird (Paradise), Jade Dragon (China), Windshear (England), Marrina (Plodex-alien), etc. So it's not like they are always Canadian.

Yes, French in Canadian is vastly different then French in France. I was pretty fluent in it many years ago, but now that is all just a blur.

That's lame. I demand at least one Russian in my team.

Either way. It's not Canadians who speak French that bug me. It's Canadians who speak French, and then claim to be French, despite the fact they're second generation Canadians.

Sorry :csad:

Gotcha, well those people actually want to split from Canada, so bleh!

It's like me claiming to be an American from France. It makes no sense, and I guarantee many Americans would just laught at it.

I don't know many French Canadians who claim to be "French." Most are "Quebecois" or "Acadians."

And Quebec french is a LOT different than Acadian french... the latter being closer to what France french sounds like.

:yay:

I found it insulting that an American was going to don the Ganadian Flag and become the new Guardian.

But now that I see he's magically Canadian I guess I'm alright with it.

He was mostly likely originally a Canadian, but moved to America or some jazz like that.

Somebody (TheCorpuLent1) has definitely missed the point of my query. It's one thing for the (new) X-Men to have Germans (Nightcrawler), Russians (Colossus), Canadians (Wolverine of course) and other diverse nationalities besides Americans- they are supposed to represent the universality of mutantkind, just as the Avengers and the Fantastic Four are supposed to be a the service of humanity at large and NOT just the good ol' US of A(I'm being sarcastic here)- Alpha Flight by definition is supposed to Canada's own team of heroes just as Big Hero 6 is Japanese, the Winter Guard Russian, and the Eurostars- well European. Just what is USAgent supposed to signify-that Canadians are so lame and "wuusy" that they can't even have their own superheroes with American imput?

Please clarify!
Terry

No. I think its more the fact that there's not that many recognizable Canadian names.

James Hudson is sorta dead and US Agent is the sole remaining kinda Captain America type.

Oops- I should have said"wussy". And with the Eurostars, why does France need her own team of superheroes anyway?

Terry

They don't. I mean they do have their National Soccer team. We know for one that their boy Zidane isn't one to **** around. Plus the team is pretty diversified: Black Frenchies, White Frenchies, Hispanic Frenchies, Muslim Frenchies. Damn, when you think about it they're a helluva better melting pot than the States is at the moment.

Hey stop whining - at least you've got a Superteam with a decent line up (regardless of how many canadians there are in it). Eurostars - what the hell??!:cmad:

You know it's tragic when Excalibur is less cool than Brubaker's Union Jack.
