How 'depowered' would you consider Bruce Timm's Superman?

He was vulnerable to more than kryptonite. He could be punched till he bled, could be electricuted, etc.

I, for one, liked it. Having him not so insanely powerful- but still Superman.

Yep, I'm pretty much in agreement there.

Makes for more interesting drama when your character can't lift planets.

That suggests that Superman is defined solely upon his powers.

I like that he was somewhat depowered, but when you can knock him down with gunfire... thats too depowered.

It only really bugged me when he nearly got his ass handed to him by that nutjob cop in the combat suit. But you can only have Supes be so powerful before he starts knocking the planets around.

watching the whole TAS series, followed by JLA, and JLU, one sees that superman is anything but depowered. His powers grew 'til he was planet moving, nearly invincible powerful. The second he started fight DS, and holding his own, was the momment he became nearly all powerful.

Superman could always be punched until he bled, and electrocuted, assuming there was enough power behind said forces. He bled plenty while fighting Doomsday, Batman electrocuted him (albeit with the whole of Metropolis's power)... there are just plenty of folks in DC powerful enough to bang Superman around. The animated version just took it further than was already true in comics.

Except that Darkseid himself was pretty much at the smallest fraction of his comic book power in the animated series. Sorry, but Superman getting knocked out by electricity or high-caliber bullets is just lame.

Sometimes he did seem a little weak.(for Superman that is) But it didn't ruin the show for me, and I think they fixed it in JL/JLU.

I liked the nutjob cop in the combat suit. That was a really cool fight.

If he doesn't have his regular powers then he is not Superman, end of story.

Er...didn't he have all of his powers, or at least all of the most recognizable ones?

Super-strength - check.
Invulnerability/indestructable - check.
Heat vision - check.
X-ray vision - check.
Super-hearing - check.
Flight - check.

Maybe toned down some, but still there.

I think he should've been at least a bit stronger. I wanna' see Superman be able to lift a truck without grunting. And then there were times where he seemed stronger than in other episodes.

I know they powered him down a bit in the books when they revamped him, and I know if he's too strong there's no chance for any type of fight.

The one thing I didn't like is how he couldn't breathe in space. That was overdoing it, they should've had him be able to breathe in space and go wherever he wanted without that ship.

But all in all a great show.:) :supes:

Personally, that's always bugged the hell out of me and I'm glad they did away with it. I wouldn't mind him being able to jet around without the ship, but I've always hated the breathing in space thing, even in the comics.

The thing is, he can't breath in space. There's nothing to breath. Now, if it was stated that he can hold his breath for a long time, or doesn't actually need to breath to survive, then that's another thing. Still, I liked the suit. And the rocket ship. I mean, traveling through space involves coverting longer distances than on Earth. He'd tire out eventually. Faster with a ship.

he wasn't depowered IMO what they showed was Superman's powers growing the more he used them and you saw that in the last show of JLU when he was fighting Darkseid. Superman could have killed him with those 2 punches.
