Homecoming Inner Monologue or no inner monologue?

I like the monologue. It's also a good way to give his origin story for the five people who are unfamiliar with it. Plus, it'll not only make Marvel's Spider-Man standout from previous Spider-Man films, it'll make him stand out from other Marvel films. Plus, it's a huge part of the character.

Don't talk directly to the audience, but he always blurs the line with the fourth wall. But talking to himself, even with jokes, is perfectly fine.

Not during fight scenes? But, that's when it would be used for good contrast. Here Spidey is, engaged in battle and his inner monologue is going on about some girl in school, or an argument he had that morning, or trying to get some more cash to help May, etc.

That's actually a great way to further develop Spider-Man's world without sacrificing screen time.

Thanks, buddy. I posted this on another thread but, welcome back! It's great seeing you on here again and I hope all is well. :woot:

Hope is once again renewed with Spider-Man in cinema. It's very exciting but there's still much to discover. Let's see if Marvel does their best work yet.

inner monologue works great in the cartoons. though it might be off putting in a movie

if it can be done right I really want it though. it's one of Spidey's trademark attributes

Keaton made the same adjustment as did NPH. I'd say that's a definite must for the new player in the Spidey suit.

It's as though you know this character. :cwink:

Definitely not in the team up films as it would be too distracting for a film with multiple leads, but I would be open to at least trying it in the solos.

in team up movies he should just awkwardly space out every once in a while, leaving the other characters questioning if he's ok, and him being like "sorry, I was just thinking to myself"/" I was just thinking about something funny"... "I do that alot"

as if he's still inner monologuing, but we just can't hear what he's thinking

Hahaha I absolutely adore this idea!! To the point that I'll be disappointed if it doesn't happen!

Like the episodes of Scrubs that aren't narrated by JD?

More seriously, though, I think it should be a given that what works as a trope in a Spider-Man film shouldn't be carried over to teamups.

I've always liked the Inner Monologue. It's fairly unique to Spidey. One of the things I'd really like to see is the dichotomy of Peter/Spidey. Spidey being a 'release' for him.Like the comics, where he'd just get out there to clear his head from the daily crap he's going through and ruminate.

I love me some Peter Parker inner monologues, perhaps open and end the film with one? Perhaps even do the origin quickly with Peter doing a monologue about it.

I always hear people complaining about bad monologue's in film, what are some good ones? Only ones I can think of right now is American Psycho and Fight Club

I always enjoyed reading what frustrations Peter parker had to vent about his life as he beat the pulp out of his villains.

Here's a way to differentiate this Spider-man from the last two iterations. Introduce monologues.

Imagine the juxtaposition of Spidey beating up a chump like the Shocker while he bickers about his private life. The contrast of what he does and says could be opportunity for a lot of great humor.

Yes.

Taxi Driver

Goddfellas

Casino

Wolf of Wall Street

Scorsese really knows how to use monologues.

I assumed the question is meant for his solo movie only, and I think that's what the OP wants.

Can't believe I forgot all of those, especially Goodfellas classic opening one. I guess they were really well blended in so it didn't take me out of the film as others tend to do. Really liked the one from Wolf of Wall Street and how he broke the 4th wall

I like this idea. Phil Lord and Chris Miller could make it work.

Yes please. One of my favorite narrative elements of Spidey stories are his inner monologues. TSSM used them excellently.

I like Spider-Man having inner monologues. Just don't do them too much. I don't like over self narration.

I'd love this as well. Tobey's Peter did it sometimes too. Like in the end of the first Spider-Man.

I definitely would love to see them do inner monolog with spidey. It be a nice way to get inside of peter mind while he is in day to day stuff and when he is swinging around as spidey.
