No doubt a controversial discussion and/or topic, but I'm sure we're all adults here and can discuss it as such.

In any case, is there a point to this? Each and every year I see posts on Facebook and Instagram (the only two media objects I have accounts with) highlighting that it is, in fact, International Women's Day (which is March 8th) and I can't help but think whether we need such a day.

It wasn't apparent to me until I researched it, but there's an International Men's Day too (November 19th if anyone cares to put it in their diary) yet I don't recall seeing countless posts about that each year, so why is one highlighted above the other? Is it media/industry and society fuelled?

A few celebs; the likes of Gal Gadot, Jessica Chastain, Felicia Day (among others) have posted articles on Feminism, and I'm sat here thinking no. It should be equalitism (I know that's not a word, but I'd hope the understanding is there).

I'm amazed we haven't got an International Black Day with the way everything seems to be at the moment. Why is it, that in this day and age, elements or themes such as pro women, or pro black (black lives matter?) something that needs to be pushed?

Is society truly that backwards that we can't all just be equal, regardless of what's between our legs, the colour of our skin, or our sexual orientation? It's kind of pathetic really that we're not there yet.

Pretty much every day of the year has a theme. There is "Talk like a pirate Day" (September 19) and "No Panties Day" (June 22) and "National Doughnut Day" (June 2) etc. Also, there is a day dedicated to men. International Men's Day is November 19. So one day out of 365 days being dedicated to women isnt really something that should upset anyone.

Well this one sounds suitable. Needless to say, the ones you've mentioned are more ... gimmicks, whereas the International Women's Day is seemingly highlighted.

I'm not expecting this to be locked - if people can keep their cool and answer maturely (exceptions to the occasional .GIF). Maybe a more simple, and more direct question?

What does International Women's Day mean to you? That's a general question directed toward everyone, regardless of whether you're a man or women. What does the day, if anything, signify, and why?

Get the **** over it!
Thank You for your contribution.

I think that what we really need to think about on Mother's Day are all the dads out there.

That the OP is so threatened by this, is really sad and pathetic. .\

So, what was the first female lead Superhero film?

Does 1941 Nyoka Jungle Girl (serial) count?
1944 Zorro's Black Whip?
1968 The Batwoman (Luchadora)?
1984 Supergirl?

I propose that all responses in this thread have to be GIFs.

April 27, National Avengers: Infinity War Day is the only day I'm looking forward to.

Considering there is also an International Men's Day, I don't really understand why this upsets you enough to make a thread complaining about it.

And the reason people feel like they need to push issues like pro women, pro black, pro gay, etc. is because there is still struggle in those areas.

I mean, if things like this bother you, ignore it. Just go about your daily life. But, if this is a day important to someone else, why do you want to rain on their parade?

To your point, can't we all just get along and let other people celebrate things you don't necessarily celebrate?

Pity the Deadpool scene isn't allowed to be posted...

And so what?

There's a lot of times in both recent history and further in the past where women's work was overshadowed or outright stolen by their male co-workers.

Between that and the fact that in many places women are seen as 'lower' than men, it's important for girls to grow up understanding that they're equal to men and can do whatever they can despite people telling them otherwise.

There's nothing wrong with, in fact it is helpful to, both celebrating progress and achievement for a group that has long been denied equality and opportunities and remembering that women have faced that denial and still face obstacles and inequalities.

For a lot of people, even most people, that is the goal. There's nothing wrong with being more specific in terms and focus some times or even often. Trying to multitask is OK but usually doesn't succeed so well.

Its pretty simple really, people just be nice to other people every day, not just day's with 'theme's' or a particular view. Listen, educate, share and communicate with each other until hatred, bigotry and uneducated BS no longer exists, if people hold a differing view, re-shape rather than believe you can't change the landscape.

Believe in each other, understand each other, share hope together.

It's pretty clear that the OP has no idea what the word feminism actually means. I suggest he educates himself, but here, I'll kindly give him a little head start by giving him the actual definition of the word:

the advocacy of women's rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes.

Hopefully that won't offend his poor, delicate white male sensibilities too much.

I cant get enough excuses to give a shout out to my mom, who raised two children on her own while being underpaid at her full-time job doing feminized labour and not paid at all for her double-day working domestic labour at home on top of everything.

It's just a misnomer. It isn't "Womans day" It's a day to remember mobilisations in favour of equal rights in work environments for women, and to rise awareness for things still to do in that regard.

I'ts not a day to congratulate women.

OP didn't say they were white.

Chances of this thread being able to produce a reasonable, level headed discussion are probably slim.
