Internet wins, Music industry gives up and puts 25 million free songs up for download

Ridiculous. Listening to it on the radio isn't stealing. The big guys control the radio stations.
Oh boy.

I'll give you a hint as to why you are wrong-wrong-wrong.

It's all about who's in charge, who owns the rights and who has the authority to say how the property is used.

That "someone" is definitely not a greasy little leech in his basement.
If someone owns a song, they can say,

"Yeah, use the song in your movie...HERE'S HOW I'LL EXPECT TO BE REIMBURSED.

Sure, play our song on the radio. HERE ARE THE CONDITIONS.

Sure, download this, this and this song for free. IF YOU WANT THE OTHERS, YOU HAVE TO BUY THE ALBUM.

or

Sure, take the whole album for free. ENJOY."

THEY produced it, so THEY should decide, not millions of people all over the world who literally had NOTHING to do with the production of the art.

If T.H.E.Y. are not offering it for free, but you take it anyway, then you just stole it.
If a company is doing a promotion where they give out a free Bic shaver to the first 100 people to respond, that doesn't mean that you can go into your local market and take all the Bic shavers, and then say, "Hey, you can get 'em free here and here and here, so I'm taking these."

Don't play stupid.

Took about 12 minutes. I knew you had it in you.

What is with the irritating moral high ground over music sharing??

Get off the high horse.

Music is played on the radio, and you don't pay for it. The music industry gets money from advertising revenue. And they get to promote their music through radio.

This is no different.
The fact that you find morals "irritating" speaks volumes about you. Really, I don't care what someone who finds morals irritating has to say about me. In all honesty, I would hope to God someone like yourself is the complete opposite of someone like me. So, in a sense I am asking you to disagree with me.

Thanks Kainedamo.

No no no, its not that I find morals irritating. I fnd people that get on a moral high horse over something so silly as downloading music to be really annoying. People that act really smugly about it oughta wise up.

The creator creates the conditions, that I agree with Wilhelm on.

It just happens that plenty of artists really don't mind people downloading music. Logically, its free publicity. It's win-win.

The people I don't like would be the guys that can download music non-stop, creating burned disc after burned disc, never actually purchasing the music.

Think of it this way. Who here smokes marijuana? Have you ever noticed how smug some people act when they say "I don't smoke marijuana", as though it's some amazing feat in morality and ethics simply because they're not breaking the law. Those people that behave like that are tools. But so are the guys that do nothing but smoke the green everday all day acting like stoner idiots.

It's about moderation. I'd prefer it and have no problem at all with guys making hundreds of CDs of downloaded music getting sued. At most, I probably have 150 songs downloaded. Half of which I already own in some other form.

So you're saying that moral people irritate you? Please stay away from the polls this election.

The creator doesn't always own what they've created, though. It's often bought lock, stock and barrel from them or they've given up ownership at least to some degree if not completely under the terms of their contract. The people who own the content create the conditions, not necessarily the creator.

Your mind misinterpreted something that really needs no further explaining. I dislike guys that act smugly superior. It's got nothing to do with morality. Or rather, it's more to do with guys that falsely believe they are more moral and act smug about it. I don't dislike people that are moral.

It's not about morality. It's just music. Do you want some sort of award because you don't download music?

Exactly. The problem is that the record companies own the songs, not the artist.

It's got nothing to do with morality? Then why did you bring up moral in your original post? You brought the word up, not me. Falsely moral? Are you saying that being against theft is actually not moral? Jesus, you scare me.

The rule of law and the rule of morality are two seperate things. You keep misinterpreting my posts now.

Yes I do keep misinterpreting your posts. First you bring up moral and then you say "exactly!" when Bell says it's not about morality. How can I not misinterpret your posts? All I'm doing is asking you questions anyway. I'm not sure what you are trying to say so I'm asking you to clarify. And each time I ask you to reiterate your point, your point changes. *shrugs* And you're surprised that I'm lost?

I'll use one of your own points to reiterate my point.

Awards for not breaking the law? Interesting and pointless.

To me, this smacks of a profound smugness. So you don't break the law - so ****ing what? Who cares? You have a misplaced sense of superiority because *gasp* you don't break the law.

So f**king what? Who cares? That's exactly what I said in my post when I said it's pointless. Now you are arguing with me on something we agree on.

BTW, I've just been f**king with you using the Socratic Method, because I'm in that kind of mood today.
