Into the Wild

The movie isn't really a downer... it's much more encouraging and envigorating. I saw it in Toronto and I'd say it's not perfect, but the story and some scenes are great. Emile Hirsch is fantastic, but the problem lies with director Sean Penn.

He's really not that great of a director. The film didn't feel like it had the strong full complete story, just big chunks. And there were some very amateur things going on that felt beyond "indie" and rather just terribly developed. It's good and worth seeing, but personally I wouldn't say it's amazing.

I think it's only playing like 33 screens. :(
I'm guessing it opens wide on the 19th.

The first half of this movie didn't capture me as much as the second half. I don't know if it was Penn's intention to go for a surreal feel, if so he succeeded and I didn't care much for it. I felt the music, at times overwhelmed and drowned out a poignant moment. The usage got better, especially in the very end. :( Very much so. :(

I loved Catherine Keener and Brian Dierker as Jan and Rainey. You almost wish they could change his mind and get him to go back home. It seems close to happening, but Chris aka Alexander Supertramp is one stubborn SOB. I was also touched by Chris' encounter with Hal Holbrook (Ron Franz), very sweet and touching.

His demise was just too much for me emotionally. We're with him when he discovers his mistake in not identifying seeds he was eating as poisonous. The spiral downwards...was..hard. :(

I saw the trailer on TV, it looks good. I'll probably check it out.

one of my teachers at school won't shut up about this film

Lol, awww. I couldn't shut up about the book while I was reading it.
Not too many people at work watch movies....okay, no one I work with could give a flying ****. :woot:

I've read the other book by the same author called "Into Thin Air" which I thought was pretty good (so tragic though).

Hmm, might have to check that out later.
Clive has a new book coming out and I still have quite a pile waiting on me.

Just got back from seeing this...It's a beautiful film. Certianly one of the best of the year.I can see this being a Best Picture nomination. Very well done. This is what filmmaking should be all about.

Christ, I need to see this film.

But where the hell is it PLAYING??

I'm going to see this on Sunday. Saturday i'm going to see 30 Days of Night, and Sunday i'll go see this.

It's not a wide release, we are having to go to a theatre downtown that plays primarily indy films.....I love going there, they serve cappuccino....so i'm in heaven ... lol
