IRREDEEMABLE ANT-MAN #4 (Review/Spoilers)

Every "underdog" book I like seems to get the can. First Thing and now Ant-Man(more than likely). Muze, I may not share your love for the character but I'll continue to fight the good fight for this book.

thanks man! it's much appreciated. :yay:

so, i'm pretty sure that i already asked this but what supervillains would you all like to see a show up in Irredeemable Ant-Man (if any)?

I'd like to see insect themed villians like Goldbug (dead), Humbug, Beetle and the like.

I like the idea of Eric manipulating the situation to appear innocent and Mitch appear guilty somehow. This makes Eric the new Ant-Man officially, drives Mitch insane, and sets him up as an arch-nemisis. Other than that, I'd like to see some Hamer Industries villains and Roxxon get involved.

how about zombie-Goldbug? he's just come for his gold and Eric happens to steal it. there are 3 new Beetles in action thanks to the T-Bolts series. i definately want him to face the one with Beetle's original suction finger costume. i know it won't happen but i'd seriously like to see Eric kick Humbug's @$$. i hate that guy! he's like the worst possible homage to Scott Lang ever (2 Heroes 4 Hire who talk to bugs)!

Mysterio for some reason.

actually Mysterio was second on my want list. then i found out that the original is dead and has been replaced by some character i don't care about. if they do find a way to bring the other Mysterio back, i'd be all for it. he would be perfect for someone like Irredeemable Ant-Man since it's all about the hero's reality changing around them. it wouldn't be a straight up fist fight.

good call. i miss the Hammer villains. and it looks like his daughter might be making a comeback. i'm surprised that having half his face burnt off didn't already drive Mitch insane. he must not be that vain of a guy. still makes him the perfect counterpart to Eric; who gets by on looks alone i guess. but that would be cool for Eric to somehow dodge the bullet and Mitch being SHIELD's scapegoat.

Ah, MTU #22. Got it.

well it's sort of already run out now that Mitch knows who he is. that's it for SHIELD service. now he's homeless; like D-Man but less dirty. i'm wondering how he even got off the Helicarrier with his clothes and money.
Maybe that is revealed next issue.

you're probably right. but they have shown Hill second-guessing a bad action before. ex. she refused to drop a nuke on Genosha when the president ordered it. Eric might not have thought twice.
Yeah, that bit was wonderful from Bendis, having Pres. Bush appear WORSE than Agent Hill. Uh-huh, there's no liberal bias in the media. None atall. ;)

he needs to crawl inside a villain's head & kick them in the brain. :woot:
That would be cool.

it's a little too early for that. Kirkman's still establishing his perosnality/background. but i'd love to see another writer's take on the character; even Bendis. who wrote The HOOD MAX series? i'd love to see that guy take a stab at him, maybe as a guest-appearance.
Brian K. Vaughan wrote THE HOOD, and I agree he is a good writer. He had a good run on ULTIMATE X-MEN last year and kicks arse on RUNAWAYS and DR. STRANGE: OATH.

Mitch might be a 'rookie' but he's supposedly second in command under Dum Dum Dugan. he was the one calling the shots when the Helicarrier was attacked. so i'd bet that he's either really skilled or has served SHIELD a significant number of years. i'd say that he's at least as competent as Pym when it comes to hand-to-hand combat. that said, i would expect Hank to kick Eric's butt if it were a straight up fight. he did build the suit.
True.

true. but the Hulk was also a) very easy to spot & track and b) a lot more destructive. Banner wasn't going around stopping muggings or spying on girls at the gym. i'd just see Hulk as a higher priority for the military than Eric is for SHIELD. and it's not like he's a clever individual. if i were asked to track him down, i'd just put out the message that he'd be given amnesty and a chance to get training with his powers if he were to surrender. then i'd shoot him once he showed up. or heck, just fill the aerobics classes with SHIELD snipers. or have a female agent hit on him. poor guy already spilled his name and origin to a complete stranger (before getting her name or asking what she does for a living). :)
Fair points.

LOL! it's amazing how fast 'Emo-Ball' caught on.
Talk about dropping the ball with Speedball, and then overkilling it.

god i hope not! that would be even worse than Pym's wife-beater status. plus he didn't seem all that interested in the little girl he saved over in Civil War: Choosing Sides. i'd say that he's more of an old-fashioned pervert; women of age and up. :woot:
I doubt it too, I was just saying. ;)

As for what villian I'd like to see Ant-Man III tackle, I agree Mysterio could be fun. Bullseye could be interesting, I mean since everyone assumes "shrinker heroes suck" so an impressive win might do wonders for him.

Hm, the original Mysterio is dead eh?

i stand corrected. i didn't read the recent spidey issues in which Beck returned from hell missing half his face. seriously wasn't expecting that one. anyways, then he'd be perfect. i've always liked Mysterio. don't know if i like the hell-connection though. i prefered him as a really really talented special effects artist.

a few other suggestions for villains, while i'm here.

Squid (Donny Callahan)

Swarm (Fritz von Meyer)

and
Black Talon

so Eric and Chris can fight.

Thing about this Ant-Man. When he's "normal" size, he's just a mad of average strength with two robotic arms and a flamethrower right?

and SHIELD combat training + whatever other gadgets are hidden in the armor, yes. :yay:

I think the connection fits for Mysterio.

Yeah, well I guess I should have mentioned that I hope Eric stays the new Ant-Man long enough for that to happen :D

lol Yeah, that would be nice. I'd like to see him mess up and become the Irredeemable Goliath.

I wonder what kind of trouble he'd get himself into then. The Adventures of Pervjacket.

I'd like to see his suit break down and go out of control, and he has to like strongarm Pym into fixing it.

Here's hoping he gets some permanent Pym Particles

well we don't even know how the armor accesses pym particles, to begin with. they might be 'permanent' as long as he's wearing the costume. maybe the exposure time is different since the particles would have to be in the armor with him. or maybe Eric's a latent mutant and the particles will activate some kind of change in him. it is comics afterall. :woot:

i'm thinking there'd be at least one scene with him whizzing on a fire to put it out.

i'm sure that would come eventually. Eric's no scientist, from what i've seen. but a strong-arm scene would be funny. of course Pym would beat him up. so now i'm trying to think of motives for Pym actually repairing the armor for Eric. hmmmm.

anyways, way waaay down the line, i would love for Eric to transition into the Yellowjacket identity. he makes a great Ant-Man but i think the Yellowjacket persona (like the one from Avengers Forever) would fit him really well, also. he'd have a similar power set and probably be able to take on bigger/badder villains. i dunno but bees, yellowjackets, and hornets make me think of 'jerkyness.' and that pretty much sums up Eric. don't get me wrong though. i'm lov'n him as Ant-Man.

I could see him trying to help put out a building fire that way. That would be AWESOME.

If the book gets cancelled, I at least hope the character hangs around and pops up places. Heck, maybe they'd even find a spot for him on NA. Here's to hopin :D I'd even prefer him to Wasp on the Mighty Avengers.
