They are based on a Marvel comic and even had a Stan Lee appearance. Doesn't this increase Marvel's box office total?

No it's not MCU.

"San Fransokyo" (San Francisco + Tokyo) should be a giveaway.

I would say it increases the box office total of Marvel in general just like any Spidey, FF or X-Men movie does also and that number is around $16.7 billion WW so far. But it doesn't add to the MCU.

Yeah it's an animated film loosely based on an obscure Marvel property, I've heard Marvel even went out of their way to distance themselves from the property.

What do you guys think about an expanded animated universe? An obscure team like the power pack or underused team like the Runaways? Howard the duck would probably work better as an animated character than he would in live action. Can't think of any other characters right now, but I'm sure there's a wealth of obscure characters and teams that could be re-purposed into there own animated features.

I didn't know that.

Not sure how Howard the Duck would work honestly. He doesn't have any powers. He's basically Donald Duck that can talk normally in the Marvel Universe. I'm actually surprised that Disney hasn't jumped at the chance to make a Power Pack movie. They, along with Fantastic Four, are taylor made for Disney.

I haven't seen the movie, but given how well its done at the box office and the positive reception its gotten, I wish Marvel had planned it so that it did fit into the MCU. Of course, any cross-overs would require hiring an actor for the main kid and a CGI robot or whatever, but I'd be cool with that.

I think its great that Disney can make animated films of obscure Marvel properties that will likely never make it into the MCU. Just great stand alone films. Im sure there will be more but Disney has so much going on right now with other Disney studio animations and Pixar films.

It still doesn't mean it's part of the MCU. You could say the same thing about the Spider-Man films, X-Men, X-Men: The Last Stand, Daredevil, Hulk, Fantastic Four 1 & 2, etc.

I think the movie version of big hero 6 lives in another dimension SEPERATE from the main MCU

I absolutely adore this movie, but its not in the MCU sadly. I really hoped it would tie in in some goofy way (like Iron Man flying past), but alas no. BH6 don't really fit anyway, but there'd certainly be scope for Baymax to fly past if they wanted a nod in the MCU

I didn't know that.
From what I've heard, Marvel and Disney began discussing how they were going to adapt the movie, and they both had very different ideas about how to approach it. Marvel said they want their movies made this way, but Disney said their movies are made another. So they basically split ways and Marvel did all they could to distance themselves from the movie, which included not publishing a comic book tie in. Believe it or not Disney hired an outside company to do that for them, since Marvel was either uncooperative or uninterested. If Marvel and Disney had seen eye-to-eye there'd be a chance that Big hero 6 could have taken place in the MCU.
This is all hearsay, I heard it from the Now Playing Podcast, and the panelists there are known for doing a lot of thorough research so I have no reason to doubt them.

That's almost the polar opposite from what I've read. From what I saw, Marvel were on board day one, and asked Disney to pitch ideas for an animated movie

Didn't get to see this when it came out (nobody else wanted to see it, and I like a group experience), but I'll be picking it up eventually.

I wouldn't mind an animated MCU, maybe they could eventually do Power Pack, that's always one everyone thought would be a good kiddie themed story.

I imagine BH6 will get a sequel, so who knows what future crossovers we might see

No it didn't. It was essentially Big Hero 6 in name only. Marvel really had nothing to do with this film. Disney just basically took the title and some of the character names and Disney went completely off book and did their own thing from that.

In order to do that, they picked a marginal, fairly obscure title that people don't have much emotional investment in.

This is not part of the MCU.

However, after the film's success, Marvel and Disney really should think about doing something with Big Hero 6 or the Big Hero 6 characters.

I'd love a comic book, or even a TV show. Just give me more :D

Nah, even the marketing for the film was all about Disney, not Marvel. "From the makers of Frozen and Tangled" was the kind of advertisement used for it

If I remember correctly one of the trailers said the characters are inspired by Marvel Comics... but I was kinda surprised they didnt even show the Marvel logo at the end even if its not part of MCU.

And this is a Disney Animated Canon film... it wont get a film sequel... maybe a Tv special or a direct to DVD/Blu ray movie but a theaterical sequel... I dont think so.

Why would that mean there's no sequel? Frozen is looking likely to get one, and there's been talk of BH7 already

In the plus camp for it being a Marvel film, it did feature classic MCU tropes like [blackout]Stan Lee cameoing and a stinger[/blackout]. It's clearly inspired by it if nothing else
