Is Final Fantasy losing it??

I barely used the summons in XII and NEVER used them in XIII. They were so good in X, but pretty meaningless in the latter additions

Summons in XIII were only useful as a means of reviving and fully healing your comrades.

I never even felt that was necesary. The game was so easy and combat simplistic. It really was all about button mashing the X button and knowing when to swich paradigms when your health was running low.

honestly the first and last FF game i got into was 7 the rest could just not hold my attention. poor characters and bad designs

I actually made a thread about this asking what would make the best FF ever cos the newer ones yes FFXIII im looking at YOU! SUCK! I find it hard to play because I feel like it's on auto pilot. anyway... In my other thread I layed out my opinion of what needs to be done.

Have a read...See if you agree...

1. World map!!! bring it back, now. with an awesome airship that you eventually acquire in an awesome way. I.e the Ragnarok from FFVIII. that was all kinds of awesome. Now the thing is with this is having the world map means you loose the MASSIVE open area's of landscape between towns like in ff12. Is it to much to ask for both? No. Just have certain area's of the world map that you "enter" to go into those massive locations. just have them scattered around the world map, slightly discoloured or looking like a significant land formation. Another thing, if you land in your awesome air ship it should be behind you when it loads, or you should be able to walk out of your ship into the area.

2. Battle system. I really dig the FFXIII battle system, to an extent. I like the idea of giving your character a "combo command" if you will. It brings it to another level. however what I HATE is that you can't control your other party members. WHY? there is no reason you can't be inputting commands for your other party members. I'm sitting there waiting to press buttons. That shouldn't happen. What I would have is a mix between the FFXIII system and the FFX system. Have the combo command but be able to control other members. Have a ATB bar, but when I say a mix with FFX I mean the ability to switch members in battle. I really dug that. Also if possible have 4 members to a team. FFIX had it and I loved it. With all other FF games where you have a 3 member party i always wished for a 4th guy.

3. Character Classes. I truly despise the Paradime shift thing in FFXIII. It endlessly bugs me that I can't attack then do a spell with out changing the whole partys Paradime or whatever it's called. What they need to do is go back to the system of having each member having a specfic talent. Again I'll use FFX as an example. The way they pulled it off was awesome. Add the fact that later in the game you can allow the characters to then learn another class specific talent makes it even better. I will go into that next.

4. Level Up! I dig the basic level up system. There's nothing more satisfying seeing lvl 100 next to your characters name. BUT! I think FFX's Sphere grid system was awesome. Each character has there own grid for there own talent. When they have completed that grid ( which is no small task ) they can then go round another characters grid, essentially learning a new "job". That's the way it should be. To include a level to that as well, just set up milestones. every time you "hit" a milestone you go up a level. simple.

5. Eidolon/Esphers/Guardian forces/Aeons. Summons for those not in the know. I like that each character has a specific summon to aid them in FFXIII. But at the same time I dislike you can only have one per character. For this I would cross FFVIII and FFX. Summoning a Eidolon to your side and battleing with it is awesome. FFX pulled this off, so I'd have it like that but every character has the ability to summon and you "junction" them to party members like in FFVIII. I would scrap the way they work in XIII and just keep the whole thing like in X. they have HP, abilities and then a "limit break/overdrive" which is there signature move.

6. LimitBreak/Overdrive. Bring them back. Simple. I however would twist it slightly. LimitBreak would be the set of special attacks a character can pull off after there Limit Gauge is full. Attacks like Omnislash and Lion Heart for example. Now my "new" idea. Overdrive's would allow the character to take on another form, Sort of like the Trance from ffIX. But with cooler forms. for example A character like Tifa could Metal up like colossus from X-men, dealing More damage and having increased Defense. That's the very basics of that idea, I haven't fully thought about how it would work.

7. Weapons. I would have a mix of Buying and upgrading. You can buy weapons if you please. But you can also synthesize a characters top 5 most powerful weapons, by collecting items and taking them to a Moogle. I dont know about you, but one of my favorite parts of FFVIII was collecting all the items for the final weapon upgrades.

8. Save points. Bring back the Moogles from FFIX. they where the greatest save points ever. that is all.

9. Triple Traid. The card game from FFVIII and FFIX. Bring it back. I loved collecting all the cards, challenging characters to games. It was Awesome.

10. Characters. Don't introduce them all at once. have say 7 characters, but you only have 4 at most at the beginning and you meet more as you go along. Please for all that is good in this world have them look cool and please CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT!!! FF12 was sooooo dissapointing in that area. It had a few cool looking guys but when the biggest revelation is one of them used to work for Emporor palpatine....I mean the bad guys you know the story sucks. there should be Twists and turns and general character growth.

11. Story. Briefly touched upon above. DON'T COPY ANYTHING ESPECIALLY STAR WARS!!! yes FF12 I'm looking at you. Also in whatever way have the Eidolons involved. Even if its just a small part of the game that mentions the specific Eidolon temples where you have to earn its help by proving yourself. which is how it should be done by the way. But back to the point...Make it awesome and don't have the main bad guy suddenly appear at the end like in IX and don't make it obvious who your final boss will be from the get go like in 12.

That's all for now. I will add some more later, but for now I'm tired. Let me know what you think and once again forgive me if there are any grammatical errors. I haven't wrote this much on a forum ever lol ( I will go over it after I've posted )

thanks for reading.

I've been thinking for the past couple of days about how Square-Enix was the king of the RPG genre since the days of the NES with Final Fantasy and reigned supreme during the SNES and PS days with the Mana series, Final Fantasy series, Chrono series, SaGa series, etc. They hit some flubs during the PS2/GC era, but they still had the RPG crown.

This generation though, everything that Square-Enix has put out has been generic at best. Japanese game development has gotten so stale and blend unless you're making it for a Nintendo console. Square-Enix is obviously no longer the RPG King. The crown has passed over to Electronic Arts with their BioWare developers.

What made me realise FF was beginning to suck? The laugh scene from X. Oh my dear, sweet GOD.

Maybe they should keep making CGI movies instead of RPGs. Pretty cutscenes seem to be the only thing they're still good at. Well, let's see what the Kingdom Hearts team has to offer with Versus XIII.

The Kingdom Hearts team still seems to have that classic Square touch. I have faith in them, especially since they said that Final Fantasy Versus XIII plays like Kingdom Hearts.

FFXII is easily the greatest Final Fantasy game (besides Tactics of coarse) and FFX is a horrible, horrible game (in terms of story as well, I can't stand anything in that overrated heap of trash).

FFXII is where it is at... very deep, complex political storyline that actually revolves around more characters than just the playable cast. Not to mention, the artstyle wasn't "the dumbest thing I have ever seen every 20 seconds" like in FFX. Lets just compare the side villains, Gabranth (who has more character development than the average FF character) and Seymour.

I can't take anyone who claims that FFX is a masterpiece/the last great Final Fantasy seriously, I just can't. It was a linear borefest and FFXII was a step in the right direction. Its a shame that FFXIII ignored all of FFXII's innovation and instead opted to be an even worse piece of crap than even FFX.

Not to mention, the FFXII soundtrack>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>FFX soundtrack

And in terms of story, the only FF games that offer anything in that subject are the Matsuno made ones (FFT, FFXII to an extent, Vagrant Story, and even though it isn't a FF, Tactics Ogre). FFIX and FFVII admittedly had pretty good stories though.

Your joking right? FF12 was TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!! it was just fricken STAR WARS!!!!!!!!!!!! there's like two twists in the whole game man? Worst game ever. I always play though Final fantasy's more than once but I could hardly finish 12.

nobuo uematsu did the ffx soundtrack and not the ff12 and he is Final Fantasy music so the soundtrack wasn't the best it could be.

FFX and FFXII were BOTH great games. FFX was the better one in terms of better characters, levelling and world but FFXII had the better gameplay and it had some great characters like Ashe, Balthier, Basche and Dr. Cid

I thought the music was great in both. Really didnt notice much of a difference

Congratulations, you are easily the most ignorant, stupid person I have seen on this forum.

I have a feeling that you just suck at FFXII, and are just one of those annoying FFX fanboys that plague the internet. Its obvious that you started playing it, wanting to hate it.

Hitoshi Sakimoto is also a Final Fantasy music composer. He has composed all of the Final Fantasy Tactics games as well as Vagrant Story. It wouldn't make any sense at all to have Nobuo work on FFXII when FFXII is an Ivalice game, and Sakimoto had done all of the Ivalice soundtracks.

Characters in FFX good? That's a laugh. We have Rikku, Yuna, Lulu, Kimahri, and Wakka who are all crappy characters who I never cared about at all. Auron was the only good thing in the entire mess.

How does FFX have a better world than FFXII and Ivalice? Ivalice is a continent that has spanned many, many games and has received uber development because of that. FFXII's Ivalice LOOKS better in terms of what is in it, and the entire vastness of the world. There's no way that "straight line the game 1" has a better world than FFXII. Read the bestiary and you will understand.

Actually I finished it easy.

Also never call me ignorant or stupid, who the hell are you to make that judgement? I actually went into that game stupidly excited like I always go into FF's. But got bored with the story, just when it was picking up it ended.

And I'm more of a Ps1 Final fantasy Fanboy than a ffx one.

Seriously though you should NEVER call someone Ignorant AND Stupid because that straight away makes you an Idiot and your post stupid.

XII>All other Final Fantasies except VI, IX, and Tactics. And Maybe IV. Just my opinion.

FF:Tactics
FFIX
FFXII
FFX
FF

those are my favs in order

Tidus, Lulu, Rikku, Waaka, Auron and Kimhari were all memorable characters. The game did a good job of fleshing them out, giving them personality and making them unique. I really felt that was only the case in FFXII with Baltheir, Basche and Ashe. The other 3 kinda felt a bit generic and they were not fleshed out. Everyone in FFX felt important to the plot and the storytelling did a good job of integrating into the squad and story. In FFXII, hey felt like random people thrown together. Sop yeah, I thought the characters overall were better in FFX

As far as Ivalice spanning many games, that has absolutely no relevance here. We are discussing it in terms of this one game and thats FFXII. As far as world, I preferred Spira. I thought it had great diverse towns, again with memorable and fun characters to interact with. I liked Ivalice, but preferred Spira, enough to want to revisit it in FFX-2 and had no problem revisitng the same locales and seeing how the world has changed.

I played FF1 for NES when it came out... then I got FF2 & FF3 for SNES... I haven't played any final fantasy games since... I always wanted to play part VII but I never got a playstation :wow:

I can agree with this. Fran, Penelo and Vaan were my least favorite characters in the game.

You're not missing much.

I've actually yet to find a person who didn't like FFVII for reasons other than that its mainstream and excessively popular, and its usually standard to hate on what's excessively popular. I'm not trying to call you out or start a fight with Soapy, but I would honestly like to know what makes FFVII bad. And if you don't want to indulge me, that's fine, too. This doesn't have to turn into a thing.
