No Final Fantasy XIII until 2008 ?

In an interview with Famitsu Magazine, character designer Tetsuya Nomura spoke on the main titles to be released from Square Enix during 2007; and surprisingly, Final Fantasy XIII was not one of them.

Five titles to be released over the course of 2007, stated Nomura, although he only gave out four names.

- Kingdom Hearts II: Final mix -PS2
- Its A Wonderful World - NDS
- Crisis core: Final Fantasy VII - PSP
- Final Fantasy VII Advent Children Complete - Blu ray Disc/film

One could speculate that Final Fantasy XIII is the fifth title, however this is unfortunately very unlikely, as Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings for the DS has more of a chance of being finished in time, and has been given a December 31, 2007 release date.

Should this be true, the nearest we can expect any of the Final Fantasy XIII games will be early 2008, with a US release later that year.

I hope so. FF games take up way too much of my time and if it comes out this year I wont be touching any other title. Im still playing FFXII after 3 months and havent really touched much of anything else

I figured so much when it was said that the demo would be out "by 2007", since if the full release was scheduled for 2007, it would be common sense that a demo would be out this year.

I wasn't expecting XIII any time soon. If it's not coming to the rest of the world until 2008, we can probably not expect it over here in the UK until 2018. We still don't have XII.

The not named title would apparently "Lose its meaning if it wasn't released this year". Considering it's something like the 20th birthday of Final Fantasy and the 10th anniversary of Final Fantasy VII, speculation is that it will probably be some sort of every Final Fantasy appreciation game to celebrate the 20th anniversary.

To little surprise Tetsuya Nomura has confirmed that Final Fantasy XIII will not make it's debut on the PLAYSTATION 3 in 2007. Nomura and company told Famitsu in a recent article that Square Enix still has to wrap up other yet-to-reach-retail projects, such as Kingdom Hearts 2: Final Mix, Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings, Crisis Core:Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete.

Sounds about right, we all remember how long it took FFXII to be released. Still looking forward to seeing more of it though.

Playable Final Fantasy XIII demo coming in third quarter of 2007

Oh my goodness! Did you read the title right? We think you did, because it's true. Gosh, what was the last Final Fantasy demo? Was it for VIII? That was a long, long time ago. Packaged with Brave Fencer Musashi, if memory serves. Oh, nevermind. Final Fantasy XII was packaged with Dragon Quest VIII. Damn! Even so, that was a big gap in itself -- now we're getting a demo for each game, then.

In the latest issue of Dengeki, Square-Enix confirmed the release of a Final Fantasy XIII (not Versus, apparently) demo sometime this year. Sqeenix wants the demo to be finished by E3 2007 -- which is pretty much closed off to the public now. If they want to be very nice, they can release the demo on the PS-Store shortly thereafter. If not, we'll probably see the release of the demo after the Tokyo Game Show 2007. Either way, awesome! No news on it going multiplatform and it's going to stay that way, from the looks of it.

I loved XII, I just did that because I have to buy a PS3 to get XIII. I plan on buying one this summer, hopefully around the time Lair releases.

People loved XII. I think most of the complaints for it was the story and that there really was no main character and thus not character based like the previous games. But aside for that, it was raved as having probably the best gameplay in any FF game. I think SE is going to go with a character driven story this time instead of a plot driven one bc thats where they excel

Final fantasy and turn based RPG type games are losing out to real time RPG's like Oblivion and Baldur's Gate style games thesedays, which personally I prefer anyway. And they've failed to make a FF game as good as VII yet, and god knows they've tried
