Is it just me or does it seem that the biggest or best Comic book movies
and biggest box office hits. Were those Comic book movies that were also the most true to the the comic book source?
(I'm being a slight bit scarcastic).
Ex.
Spiderman
Batman begins
Ironman
Superman (The first one)
Why can't they get a clue?

Why haven't they figured this out yet can it be that difficult.
UMMMMMMM heres your sign.

Again I ask.Is it just me?

In all fairness, the X-Men movies were all commercial successes despite the changes made to many of the characters. Blade didn't resemble his comic book counterpart at all, and people dug the first two movies. Then there's the success of The Mask, which wasn't anywhere near accurate.

What I'm basically saying is that the studios have learned absolutely nothing. They will continue their tactic of throwing their ideas against the wall to see what sticks.

Its just you :)

Sometimes following the source material will work, and I'm sure sometimes it don't....Just gotta remember that what works in a comic will not always work on the big screen, their just two different media's and audiences.
Its also the fact you gotta let the producers/directors add their creativity and ideals to the movie..They may have a different direction they want that material to go and have their ideas on how they want to do it. Sometimes their ideas work and sometimes they don't.
Theres just so many variables when it comes to this subject and making a good comic...Mainly the director, prodcures, and studio suits can they represent the characters well enough to appease the hardcore fans and yet appeal to a general audience...
To me its the director and producer, no matter how big the budget is,a good story line is the key to any movie really..Can have the biggest budget, biggest explosions, the most CGI per minutes, and still sux. Or u can have a small budget,a good writer/director and have a great movie...

Big Budget but sux: The Hulk,Batman(one with mr freeze etc.)
Low Budget but good: The Crow

Eh, it's not just you... Others have brought this up as well. Then again, faithful movies don't always do well. Look at Fantastic Four. It didn't particularly deviate any more than the movies listed above, but it didn't do great, and neither did the sequel. Also, there are people who probably argue Batman Begins is more faithful than Batman, but Batman is the more successful of the two.

The movies listed in the first post are generally considered good movies and not just because they're faithful. I think what you're finding is that the movies that happen to be the most faithful and the most successful are movies whose creators have possibly put more thought and resources into their products in general.

That's the funny thing about the Fantastic Four movie. Aside from Doctor Doom's origin, it stayed pretty close to the source material. It even captured the comic's spirit, with Johnny and Ben playing pranks, Sue nagging, and Reed getting too wrapped up in his experiments, ect. The overall plot just sucked. Everything about the villain (his plan, his final attack, the fact that Julian McMahon was more menacing when he played a conflicted good guy on Charmed) was terrible, and the whole movie suffered for it.
