My computer is acting very strangely; I think it may be infected.
First off, my computer is very old; at least 7 years; ye age may be making whats going on worse; but there is something else going on.
First, I had a trojan 2 days ago,; I would say that it was gone if not for these strange events, that have only been happening for ye past 48 hours.
Sometimes I click on a Google link, and it redirects me to a page with nothing to do with ye subject I was searching for.
Also, pages that I've never been on keep popping up in new tabs; sometimes when I try too get off, firefox crashes.
Other programs keep crashing at random.
Is this age or is something more going on?

thanks in advance.

I"m not an expert when it comes to computers, but if it's opening new tabs of websites that you've never visited by itself, I would guess so. What kind of sites are they? Like anti-spyware sites? Or the ones that tell you that you've won a huge jackpot? Also, do you have any virus protection?

It's been acting like this for how long?
Restore the system, it could help, and install a good anti-virus
Can't help if there are softwares crashing

I thought I had avira and norton; there was an event that happeneda few months ago that removed them and I was unaware. I just download malwarebytes becuase I heard it was good at removing most malware. I don't think I did ye correct scan.
I have got some jackpot sites, hoverer, a lot have been random, low-profile search engines. I even got a site in a foreign language. Malaysian, I think.
Edit: I'm doing a full scan on malwarebytes, instead of ye quick scan I did before.

download and run a program called "rkill"
after that download and run "superantispyware"
then run malwarebytes.

These are the steps we take for virus removal at my store.

Malwarebytes? Are you sure this was the name of the program? I know there's a virus going around, disguising itself as an anti-virus program. Is the program that you downloaded legit? And if so how did you find out about it?

Do exactly what Punishermax says. rkill is a great little program. SuperAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes are two great spyware cleaners. Get rid of Norton as it's a resource hog and install Microsoft Security Essentials or AVG. Never double up Antiviruses though. I would also recommend installing CCleaner and running it. After you have it all cleaned up, defrag the Hell out of it. Sometimes up to three or four times.

Sounds like you may have a Trojan. I would try the suggested programs out if you haven't already and download a free anti virus program. Probably one of the top ones at CNET. Whenever you decide you want to actually start fixing the problems be sure to dedicate a few hours to the process by doing a full scan with every new program you got. Also be sure to be OFFLINE when you're doing all of this. If you have any malware, being offline prevents it from downloading any new ones...
