I think that we can't pretend to not be cliqueish at times, yeah. And for those that hang around for more than a couple of years or who have high post counts, needless to say those are folk that are going to have a POV that is more intense than someone more casual in their forum use and sure, that may manifest in some undue friction. We should cop to that, no doubt...
At the same time let us not pretend that some newbs don't come in with some skewed view on how to behave here. Some wanna showcase their sharp elbows off the bat, maybe to make a splash in their minds, maybe to proactively protect themselves from being "bullied" or maybe they are just dumb **** trolls looking for the newest green pastures to ply their shtick. This behavior is apparent pretty quickly.
Then you have those very frequent and oh so suspicious accounts that take up the exact same arguments and views of a previously banned member. We all know the type. The member that went over the line and who comes back and heads straight to the politics section to scream at "The Sheeple" and go on about whatever extremist conspiracy theory is on their mind that day. The bigot that can't help themselves, the reactionary looking to "own the libs" etc.
Then you just have the genre fans that have a really unhealthy relationship with whatever is the focus of their passions who got banned because they lacked the self awareness to realize that no matter how much a fictional narrative and its characters speak to their soul... It is still ultimately fiction. They get banned and now are on a vendetta against all those that can't understand that Superman's underwear simply must be on the outside and now until the end of time no matter how often they get banned they will re-up membership to come back and harass the members and mods that they see as their "enemies".
Those who have been members of this community for a few years and use the forums regularly know that the phenomenon I am talking about is real. If you wanna know why their is often skepticism when new members show up... It doesn't come out of nowhere.
